CRNA Float -- Anesthesia -- Memorial Hospital

Job Summary

Administers anesthesia and anesthesia related core under the direction of a physician. Monitors and supports life functions. Acts as the patient's advocate while the patient is under anesthesia.

 

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates ability to administer or assist with all types of anesthesia. • Sets up the operating room with anesthesia-related drugs and equipment prior to each procedure. • Inspects the anesthesia machines and other equipment prior to each case to ensure proper working order. • Reviews findings of each patient's preoperative examination, all appropriate lab values, and consultative information to choose the best anesthetic for the patient in collaboration with the Anesthesiologist. • Maintains an accurate anesthesia record. • Assists with problems requiring airway maintenance expertise anywhere in the hospital. • Works with students and provide training as needed. • Responsible for integrating continuous, quality improvement into department and institution operations, and demonstrate a commitment to the process. • Support and assist employee participation in the continuous, quality improvement processes. • Reinforce employee understanding of work integration with other departments throughout the institution. • Develops, implements, and documents an Anesthesia Plan of Care prior to proving an anesthetic. • Performs an assessment immediately prior to induction of anesthesia of the patient and document on the anesthesia record. • Supervision of the SRNA during all phases of anesthesia care: pre-operative assessment, intraoperative administration of and management of anesthesia, and patient evaluation and care in the postoperative period. • Supervision of the SRNA in all anesthesia related activities, such as, but not limited to: documentation in the medical record and response to urgent/emergent situations throughout the clinical facility. • Discussion of the development of and the rationale behind the anesthetic plan of care. • Provision of appropriate learning opportunities for the SRNA. • Promote a clinical educational environment conducive to learning for SRNAs. • Evaluation of and participation in constructive discussion regarding the SRNAs clinical performance. • Encouragement of the SRNA to: initiate open dialogue about anesthesia care, critically think, and develop independent actions. • Serve as a first line resource for the SRNA in the event a matter related to clinical instruction or clinical evaluation occurs. • Informing the Site Clinical Coordinator or Charge CRNA of pertinent SRNA performance.

Perform related duties as assigned.
