General Summary:

The Courier is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of blood and other laboratory specimens for the physician’s office to Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Laboratory for testing. Other responsibilities include picking up supplies for Maintenance and the Materials Distribution Center and processing outgoing mail for FTMC. The courier staff will adhere to all policies and procedures documented in the Materials Management policy and procedure manual. The staff needs to be proficient in the use of a general computer for processing and certified mail for the facility.

Essential Functions: Wears name badge according to policy. Understands HIPPA policies and guidelines. Adheres to time and attendance guidelines. Maintains and protects patient confidentiality. Demonstrates respect for hospital property. Demonstrates and understands their roll in the Corporate Compliance Program. Demonstrates knowledge of emergency codes. No citations while driving company vehicle. Recognizes and reports safety and environmental hazards/violations. Utilizes proper phone etiquette/answers within 3 rings. Accepts constructive criticism without defensive response. Addresses issues directly with individual involved with calm tone of voice. Completes assignments without prompting. Speaks positively about the system, physicians, community, and staff. Practices accepted hand washing technique. Uses standard precautions and proper infection control techniques. Checks oil at fill-up and maintains gas in the company vehicles. Identifies problem areas with vehicles and reports to department manager. Delivers supplies to outside accounts upon request. Distributes mail promptly and correctly. Uses proper body mechanics for lifting or moving furniture, equipment, trash, etc.
