Mastercard Enterprise Gateway Services comprises a global portfolio of products, services and programs that further strengthens Mastercard’s overall core payments strategy. The division includes a payment gateway (enabling e-commerce), a network gateway (for all types of transactions, both issuer and merchant facing), a services gateway connecting customers to key value-added services, and a gateway for closed-loop and non-card transactions via private label and pay by account platforms and programs.
We are looking for an experienced lawyer to join our legal team, providing support and advice to the Enterprise Gateway services product and go to market teams.
The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, curious and analytical and dedicated to delivering strategic and hands-on legal support to develop and scale our portfolio of gateway solutions, whilst ensuring that we remain compliant with laws and regulatory requirements.
Role
This role handles legal product development and go to market launches and enablement at scale for the business on a day-to-day basis, identifying and analysing relevant issues and helping the business effectively navigate legal and regulatory risks and implement appropriate controls, policies and processes.
You will:
•\tFocus on legal support for the strategic development and daily operations of Mastercard’s global Enterprise Gateway Services team, with a specific focus on digital channels
•\tEnsure alignment and compliance of products and services with Mastercard’s policies, procedures and processes and with European and global regulatory and commercial laws
•\tCover a broad range of product development and commercial and contractual matters, including partnerships arrangements, product and marketing legal reviews
•\tDevelop product agreement templates and review contracts and manage complex contract negotiations with customers, partners and key suppliers
•\tInstruct and manage external counsel within agreed policy and budget
•\tDevelop strong relationships with partners across product development, engineering, business strategy, sales and senior management across the organisation, in multiple markets
•\tWork in close collaboration with external and internal specialists (including Franchise, regulatory affairs, data privacy and intellectual property counsel, anti- trust, global affairs and compliance teams)
•\tProvide training as appropriate to legal, sales and product colleagues

All About You
•\tQualified Lawyer, licensed to practice in England, with a strong academic background.
•\tAnalytical Skills: Ability to identify core legal issues in support of product development initiatives and explain technical problems clearly.
•\tExperience with commercial contracting and technology law.
•\tProduct Development Support: Experience in supporting new product development, even if in a different industry, considered a strong asset.
•\t Other Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of data privacy and intellectual property issues.
•\tCommunication Skills: Strong drafting, writing, oral communication, and negotiating skills, with ability to communicate your vision and roadmap effectively to a variety of stakeholders.
•\tInterpersonal Skills: Proven experience in relationship building and partnering.
•\tAdaptability and Solution-Oriented: Comfortable working collaboratively or individually and flexibly under pressure, with excellent time management, planning, and organizational skills.
•\tBusiness Acumen: Ability to quickly understand and maintain knowledge of complex products, services, and legal frameworks.
•\tInterest in Payments and Financial Services: Interest in financial services and payment technologies; experience in this space is a plus.
•\tMultinational Experience: Experience as an in-house lawyer in a multinational company is desirable but not essential.
