About The Opportunity

WeWork is seeking an employment lawyer to join its dedicated employment law team within its Legal Department as a Counsel. This position will sit in Berlin and will initially report to the Senior Counsel, Employment Law, EMEA.

Responsibilities:

Advise HR and business leaders on employment matters throughout EMEA (with special emphasis on Germany, France, and UK), including hiring/recruitment, promotions, performance and absenteeism management, leaves of absence, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, disciplinary actions, redundancies or other restructurings, terminations, post-termination disputes, mergers and acquisitions (including diligence and workforce integration/deintegration), pay equity, and worker classifications.

Liaise with and advise on legal issues involving works councils, especially in Germany and France.

Oversee and partner with outside counsel on employment litigation and, as needed, advice and counsel matters.

Review and update HR policies and trainings. 

Create and present occasional trainings on employment law matters to educate HR and business leaders.

Oversee internal employment investigations involving alleged violations of law.

Monitor and draft submissions to regulatory agencies that involve employment-related reporting obligations.

Review compensation plans, including sales compensation plans and governance policies.

Qualifications: 

German qualified Lawyer, or UK qualified lawyer with significant experience advising on German employment law issues.

Minimum 5 years of experience focused on employment law (in-house experience in a global organisation is a plus)

Proven expertise in major EMEA market employment law and litigation.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the desire and ability to build close partnerships with business and legal stakeholders.

Ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines, workflow, and team execution in a fast-paced work environment.

Ability to translate legal requirements into understandable risk-based recommendations for the business and legal functions.

Experience advising on works council matters is required.
