COUNSEL, DATA PROTECTION & PRIVACY

The Counsel, Data Protection & Privacy will focus on SpaceX’s global Starlink broadband internet business. With an eye towards privacy-by-design, you will drive data protection initiatives and managing compliance with global laws and regulations. You will serve as the legal representative on cross-functional teams detailing with novel legal, regulatory, and privacy engineering issues around the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Advise on and manage compliance with data protection laws in markets where we operate around the world Drive initiatives to meet data protection best practices and regulatory requirements, in partnership with other attorneys, and the customer success, IT, and security teams Maintain subject matter expertise in multiple areas of privacy, evaluating the impact of relevant global requirements and regulatory guidance Respond to inquiries from data protection regulators Negotiate data privacy and security provisions with suppliers, partners, and enterprise customers Assist with incident response and related regulatory engagement Communicate, educate, and train employees on data protection and privacy issues

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

JD from an ABA accredited school  4+ years of post-JD experience In-house legal experience or experience at a law firm working with corporate clients Experience with global privacy and data security requirements

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Significant knowledge of and experience with establishing and managing global privacy and data security programs Familiarity with technology and the ability to interact with highly technical engineers and security personnel Great people skills and ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment with a wide range of technical and non-technical teams Experience with telecommunications and/or internet service providers, on such issues and other related telco regulatory issues Ability to identify technical infrastructure requirements to enable privacy compliance and implement privacy-by-design

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be admitted to the bar, in good standing, in at least one U.S. State This position is based in Hawthorne, CA and requires being onsite - remote work not considered Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range: 

Counsel, Data Protection & Privacy: $190,000.00 - $245,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
