About the job:
Kent is looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Specialist to be based in Hoston, TX

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in cost management for engineering projects, along with hands-on experience using Power BI for reporting and data visualization. This role is responsible for tracking, analyzing, and reporting on project costs to support informed decision-making and effective financial control, ensuring that project budgets are met, and cost performance is optimized.Skills and Responsibilities: Track and monitor project costs across all phases, analyzing cost variances and forecasting to ensure alignment with project budgets.Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards for real-time cost reporting, providing project managers and stakeholders with up-to-date insights into budget status, spending trends, and Estimate at Completion (EAC).Work closely with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to gather cost data, identify cost-saving opportunities, and address any financial variances.Prepare monthly cost reports, financial summaries, and budget analyses, supporting regular project reviews and financial planning sessions.Establish and enforce cost control processes, ensuring adherence to project budget guidelines and company financial standards.Monitor changes in project scope, adjusting budgets and forecasts to reflect cost impacts, and implementing necessary corrective actions to mitigate budget risks.Conduct detailed variance analysis and root-cause investigations for significant cost deviations, providing recommendations to improve cost efficiency.Collaborate with stakeholders to improve data accuracy and consistency, using Power BI to streamline and automate data reporting and visualization.Support the development of cost control strategies and methodologies to enhance the organization’s cost management practices.Support project planning and scheduling activities to ensure alignment between cost control and project timelines, using earned value management principles to track schedule adherence and performance.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, Business, or a related field.5+ years of experience in cost control, with a focus on engineering projects.Proficiency in Power BI, with demonstrated ability to create dashboards and perform advanced data analysis.Strong analytical skills, with experience in budget forecasting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and provide insights for decision-making.Attention to detail and a proactive approach to managing project costs and identifying potential issues.
