Corporate Monitoring and Observability Engineer
About The Role This role will be responsible for the design and implementation of monitoring solutions that include observability, analysis, troubleshooting, and reporting for Glacier Bank’s technology stack including but is not limited to Infrastructure, Application, Network, and Security. This individual will take an active role in driving overall improvement of operation results due to application performance monitoring tools and techniques. The role defines the metrics, data collection methods, and reporting mechanisms as well as implementation of an overall performance management strategy. Ensures the effective capture of all logging and monitoring of all aspects of system and application behavior to facilitate fast detection and resolution of issues. This role will be an SME in troubleshooting performance issues across the Enterprise. This role will work closely with IT, Enterprise Architecture, Project Management, and external vendors ensuring the consistent tracking and reporting of metrics and performance data across the Enterprise. This is a Corporate position which may be located in an available bank division across our eight-state footprint in AZ, CO, ID, MT, NV, UT, WA, or WY. All compensation offers are analyzed individually and take into consideration multiple factors including but not limited to geographic location, years of experience, and educational background. Duties and Responsibilities Design and implement monitoring and observability solutions for on-premise and cloud hosted applications. Configuring alerts, creating dashboards, and conducting data trend analysis. Assist with troubleshooting using logs, alerts, and external data sources to determine network, application, or security issues. Correlates data to determine root cause. Reproduces and documents issues and other pertinent information in Incident or Problem tickets. Update, maintain, and support Glacier Bank’s stack of monitoring & observability tools Define and maintain IT’s performance monitoring and reporting strategy (processes, tools, and templates); develop enhanced reporting capabilities through standardization and automation. Recommend, implement, and manage automation to help facilitate enterprise monitoring. Proactively analyze trends in performance across IT. Recommend performance improvements for capacity, availability, performance, support, and security. Collaborate with process owners and stakeholders to identify and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. Stays informed of production changes that could affect functionality and alerting. Stays informed of emerging cloud technologies and evaluates the value to GBCI operations. Handles ad hoc requests and takes on new procedures as required. Must comply with all company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Must complete the assigned online training courses and achieve a passing score by due date. Education Required/Preferred Education Level Description Required Bachelor’s Degree Computer Science or related information technology / science / system degree. Experience Required/Preferred Experience Level Description Required 7 years Information Systems Engineering experience Required 5 years Experience in network, application performance, and synthetic monitoring. Required 3 - 5 years Building robust observability using Dynatrace solutions (Infrastructure Observability, Application Observability, and Digital Experience). Required 3 years Building observability into cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GPC, SalesForce, etc.) Required Expert Experience Analyzing metrics, logs, and traces to identify performance bottlenecks and errors Required Expert Experience Application and Network Performance Management Tools. Required Advanced Experience Networking fundamentals including TCP/IT, IDP, DNS, DHCP, VLANS, routing. Required Advanced Experience Microsoft server products (Windows Server, SQL Server, Internet Information Services, etc.) Required Advanced Experience Datacenter fundamentals, server hardware systems, storage, and networking Required Advanced Experience Configuring alerts, creating dashboards, and conducting data trend analysis. Required Advanced / Specialized Knowledge Troubleshooting performance issues with complex large-scale, multi-tier, and distributed application infrastructures. Required Knowledge Of Network Security elements including intrusion protection systems, anti-virus, proxies, and firewalls. Preferred Advanced Experience Data management, report design, data visualization, and presentation techniques. Preferred Advanced Experience Azure Monitor and Azure Monitor Insights Preferred Knowledge Of WhatsUp Gold Monitoring Preferred Knowledge Of At least one scripting language such as JavaScript, bash, or PowerShell.
