As Corporate Counsel within Global Trade Compliance, you will help drive Autodesk’s efforts to build and maintain a practical and effective global trade compliance program. You will be a member of the Legal Compliance & Litigation team and will work collaboratively with Autodesk’s global trade compliance professionals, other members of Legal and our business teams to ensure on-going compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies; assess new sanctions and export controls and play an integral role in the continuous improvement and scaling of Autodesk’s trade compliance program.
This position will report to the Legal Director, Global Compliance, and is hybrid, based in Denver, Portland, Boston, or the Washington, DC area.
Responsibilities
Help develop and implement proactive strategies, processes, and work instructions to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies related to trade compliance
Monitor updates to export laws and regulations – as well as changes to Autodesk’s product lines, business models, and key strategies and systems – to ensure compliance with applicable export controls and economic sanctions
Provide legal guidance on complex sanctions and export control matters
Support Legal team members with trade compliance specific contract clauses, negotiations and related customer and vendor engagements
Direct internal investigations, including root cause analysis and identification of targeted corrective actions
Assist with scoping and leading program risk assessments and internal audits as well as proving support for external audits and assessments
Assess and provide guidance on export classifications, associated license requirements and the development of Technology Control Plans
Minimum Qualifications
JD and active Bar Membership in at least one state
3-5+ years’ experience focused on Trade Compliance in a law firm, in-house, or in government, or a combination of these
Significant experience advising on complex U.S. economic sanctions and export control laws and regulations, including providing guidance on compliance with the EAR, OFAC regulations and the ITAR. Experience with EU and other global sanctions regimes is a plus
Experience with implementing and monitoring effective trade compliance programs including project management skills
Experience with encryption regulations and export classifications, including experience classifying software
Ability to interact comfortably with business teams; strong verbal and analytical skills; exceptional interpersonal skills
Highly team-oriented; a commitment to professionalism; a sense of humor; an open mind
Flexibility as to the types of projects assigned; solid business acumen; willingness to work outside of normal business hours; and the ability to manage several simultaneous projects under deadline pressure
Experience in the software or technology industries is desirable, as is a willingness to travel approximately 20-25%

Salary transparency
Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $147,500 and $238,590. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range.
