The Science Technology and Society STS programs in the A James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland College Park is seeking a Administrative Coordinator for Experiential Programs to engage in a number of unique areas and opportunities supported by STS and the Office of Global Engineering Leadership OGEL including instructional personnel onboarding experiential learning activities co curricular experiences and administrative support to STS facultyThe Administrative Coordinator position is designed to advance the four pillars of the A James Clark School of Engineerings Strategic Plan to 1 Reimagine Learning 2 Develop partnerships to advance the public good 3 Invest in the Clark School community and 4 Expand Opportunities for Research and Innovation This role will help support the implementation of an engineering ethics course required for all engineering students the integration of socio technical systems thinking modules into technical engineering courses the management of high profile public facing activities related to the STS Lab and the facilitation of experiential learning and co curricular activities of the STS Scholars program These initiatives use innovative teaching methods to prepare engineering students to reflect and ask questions about the societal implications of the technology they will build and weave the values of diversity equity and inclusion into the STEM workforce and educationIn close partnership and coordination with STS Faculty the Administrative Coordinator will aid in curriculum alignment and implementation across STS programs support the development of experiential co curricular and course activities lead searches for and hiring 40 45 Undergraduate Teaching Fellows UTF each semester and adjunct faculty as needed administer and support the data collection and writing of program assessment reports eg ABET and coordinate program communicationsWhile not required the ideal candidate should have a background in student affairs higher education curriculum development systems thinking design engineering ethics organizational development or related field No engineering experience is expected or required of this positionThe STS and OGEL programs serve as the central hub for making connections between engineering and society in the A James Clark School of Engineering The growing importance of the STS and OGEL programs is indicative of the Clark School being at the forefront of ethics and DEI integration into STEM education on campus and nationwide The STS and OGEL programs seek to develop skills and mindsets to foresee the unintended consequences of technological development and create and maintain technologies that help communities in needThe A James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland serves as the catalyst for high quality research innovation and learning preparing our students to create innovations that will address the 21st century Grand Challenges eg energy environment security and human health and improve the human condition The Clark School is dedicated to leading and transforming the engineering discipline and profession to accelerating entrepreneurship and to transforming research and learning activities into new innovations that benefit millions
