The Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering CMSE was established in 1981 as a unit within the School of Engineering and provides academic support services and outreach programs designed to recruit retain and graduate African American Hispanic American and Native American engineering students The staff provides retention outreach and recruitment activities and programs for pre college community college undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at the Clark SchoolThe primary duties of the Program Coordinator for Outreach and Recruitment are to lead or participate in outreach recruitment and other initiatives and activities for CMSE that are designed to increase the participation and enrollment of underrepresented minority students in engineering Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to creating and implementing recruitment and yield activities for prospective undergraduate students creating summer and other programs for pre college students and working with community college students The individual in this role will be involved in program development from inception to implementation including designing and executing marketing strategies recruiting and selecting participants hiring and supervising instructors and student staff advising students and developing and tracking program budgetsAs a member of the small CMSE team the Program Coordinator also takes on responsibilities in data collection and report writing and sometimes assists in writing funding and grant proposals Due to the dynamic nature of the work and the collaborative culture of the office the person in this position must be comfortable assisting with other mission critical projects and tasks as neededThe A James Clark School of Engineering at the University of Maryland catalyzes high quality research innovation and learning preparing ourstudents to create innovations that will address the 21st century GrandChallenges eg energy environment security and human health andimprove the human condition The Clark School is dedicated to leading and transforming the engineering discipline and profession accelerating entrepreneurship and transforming research and learning activities intoinnovations that benefit millions
