Description of Work Unit
Division of Student Affairs:
The Division of Student Affairs fosters an inclusive campus community that supports students and staff holistically in the development of their unique potential. We collaborate across the University to inspire and empower students to be active learners inside and outside the classroom, successful graduates, and engaged global citizens. We support student success through an array of services and resources including housing, dining, student orientation, recreation, student government, student organizations, and legal, career, transition, health, well-being, and crisis services. In addition to student services, we also connect with parents and families, host conferences and events, manage the Mountain Campus, provide professional development opportunities for staff, and partner with a number of businesses in the student center. The Division employs 800 career staff, 2,000 student and hourly staff, and manages a budget of over $150 million.
Orientation & Transition Programs:
Orientation and Transition Programs ( OTP ) creates dynamic, student-centered experiences to inspire purposeful transitions. Programs within OTP include orientation, welcome week, new student seminars, and programming designed for first-year, second-year, and new transfer students. Additionally, OTP places high value on student leadership and development and employs over 350 student leaders to implement these university-wide programs. Organizationally, OTP is part of the department called Orientation, Transition, and Family Programs which includes two other units – Fostering Success Program and Parent and Family Programs.
Position Summary
The Coordinator for Orientation Programs in OTP provides support for the coordination of orientation programming for new students (Ram Orientation) as well as oversees the recruitment, selection, training and supervision of student staff for orientation programs. Additionally, the coordinator works with current and developing orientation programs for specialized populations (online, international, first generation, etc.). This position reports directly to the Assistant Director, Orientation Programs.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Business, Social Sciences, Applied Human Sciences, Liberal Arts or related field
+ One year of experience with student staff training and/or supervision
+ One year of experience programming for students in a higher education setting
+ Demonstrated experience and commitment to diversity and social justice with experience working with diverse populations across a breadth of diverse identities
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Master’s Degree by start date in higher education administration, student affairs, social sciences, applied sciences or related fields
+ One year of graduate or professional experience with orientation and transition programming designed to increase student engagement, retention, and success
+ One-year graduate or professional experience in a higher education setting working directly with new student orientation programs
+ Demonstrated experience and familiarity with best practices in new student orientation programming
+ Demonstrated experience with large-scale university-wide programs and initiatives
+ Knowledge of intersectional social justice frameworks and demonstrated application to programming, student staff training and/or supervision
+ Demonstrated awareness of issues facing students from historically minoritized groups, experience with developing programming for first-year students who hold marginalized identities
+ Demonstrated experience developing and implementing learning outcomes and program assessment
+ Demonstrated communication skills, including interpersonal communication, presentation, and facilitation and writing skills
+ Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with academic departments, student services and strategic campus partners

Duty/Responsibility
+ Collaborate with Assistant Director, Orientation Programs to provide coordination, leadership and vision for new student orientation programming by researching initiatives across the nation focused on onboarding new students to the university environment.
+ Support the coordination of Ram Orientation programming, including supervising student staff, working with campus partners to coordinate aspects of Ram Orientation and the assessment and evaluation of programs.
+ Directly responsible for coordination, leadership, and vision for specialized orientation programming in collaboration with campus partners for new students including international students and online orientation participants. Support the visioning for future opportunities for specialized orientation programs for various populations (for example, first generation students).
+ Develop student-learning outcomes for specialized orientation programming, assess and evaluate specialized orientations through program evaluations, and create an annual data report for specialized orientation programs.
+ Coordinate, manage, and enhance the content and delivery methods for the Online Orientation system, which includes developing knowledge of the Advantage Design Group systems.
+ Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director, Orientation Programs and Program Manager to manage Online Orientation and the orientation reservation system; develop a communication timeline and plan, update email content, and assess communication effectiveness using program evaluations and web analytics.
+ Engage in conversations regarding budget decisions and increases for orientation programming for new students with the Assistant Director, Orientation Programs.
+ Collaborate on maintaining and updating websites and social media outlets designed and utilized for new student engagement.
+ Plan, implement, and collaborate on marketing efforts and publications for new student orientation programs.

Duty/Responsibility
+ Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate undergraduate students who serve as Orientation Leaders (26-30), Orientation Team Leaders (2-4) and a Student Coordinator for Orientation Programs. Direct supervision of staff includes regular meeting to provide and receive feedback.
+ The Coordinator is responsible for creating and facilitating the training curriculum for student staff that includes working with diverse populations, diversity and social justice frameworks, facilitation and communication skills, campus resources, customer service, conflict resolution and more.
+ Manage budget for Ram Orientation student staff expenses including staff training and recruitment, hourly wages, etc.
+ Plan, implement, and collaborate on marketing efforts for student staff recruitment including website content management, design and coordination of print publications.
