**Description:**
**GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:**
Under general supervision, responsible for preparing food items for patients, cafeteria and catering according to production schedule. Food is to be prepared in accordance with established menus, recipes and sanitary standards. May assume additional responsibilities in absence of Nutrition Services Supervisor or Manager.
**SCHEDULE AND BENEFITS:**
+ Position will be scheduled for 40 hours a week. Shifts may include weekends, weekdays or holidays.

**SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:**
+ High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
+ Knowledge and skills to perform the required cooking methods (e.g., baking, broiling, roasting, steaming, frying) equivalent to two years of experience of institutional cooking.
+ Four years of experience in restaurant/institutional cooking preferred.
+ Six months of hospital cooking required and must be able to pass department sponsored Diet Therapy test.
+ Serv-Safe or comparably certified in HACCP processes within 90 days of hire.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:**
+ Meets Health System's Guiding Behaviors and Caring Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations.
+ Prepares and stores food for patients and visitors. according to accepted HACCP and UNICODE standards.
+ Performs cleaning procedures of food service equipment and work areas.
+ Ability to work as part of a team in a high volume kitchen
+ Ability to read, follow and convert recipes.
+ Ability to operate any equipment used in food preparation.
+ Supervises production staff in the absence of the Chef.
+ Must be able to disassemble and reassemble all kitchen equipment to be cleaned.
+ Competency in basic literacy skills including reading, oral and written communication and basic math skills required.
