Reporting to the Engineering Team Leader, the Controls Software Developer for Engineering will be responsible and accountable primarily for developing advanced controls strategies and user interface solutions to improve performance and customer experience of the water treatment solutions. The ideal candidate will have experience developing PLC and HMI software projects and the technical leadership to work with stakeholders, suppliers, and cross-functional team members to deliver innovative and quality solutions.
This position is part of the Innovation and Technology team located in London, ON and will be _hybrid in London, ON._
This role will require travel to the US and Canada, for up to **10% of the time.**
**In this role, a typical day will look like:**
+ Being involved in all stages of PLC and HMI development projects – scoping & requirements, development, verification, documentation, and support of software solutions.
+ Acting as a champion to integrate best practices, identifying opportunities for optimization, and proposing innovative solutions in a cross functional environment.
+ Recommending and implementing continuous improvement ideas to team’s processes, tools, and software solutions.
+ Providing technical leadership for one or more key technology vendors.
+ Defining and implementing PLC control strategies for new and existing products that meet delivery, scope, and quality metrics.
+ Mentoring of junior associates
**The essential requirements of the job include:**
+ Post-secondary education in Electrical / Controls System Engineering, or equivalent experience
+ 5+ years of PLC and HMI programming experience developing complex customer or product logic solutions with at least **two major platforms** (e.g. Allan Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Wago, etc.)
+ Experience with text-based programming languages such as Structured Test (ST) or Structured Control Language (SCL) an asset.
+ Ability to travel 10% of the time in the US and Canada.
**It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:**
+ Delivery of new features and functionality that deliver improved user experience.
+ Continued improvement and implementation of standard work/processes to deliver on team goals.
+ Experience with SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
+ Experience in Jira or other Altassian tools.
+ Codesys based programming environments.
+ Beijer iX Developer or other HMI vendor platform environments
