Controls Intern
Job Summary: This position provides hands-on experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and updating control systems under the guidance of experienced team members. Under general supervision the Interns will assist in hardware and software designs and programming of HVAC control and other low voltage systems to meet the intent of the project requirements, and assist with submittals for customers, consultants, field teams and subcontractors. This program is a valuable opportunity for interns to understand the integration of academic learning with the day-to-day processes of business and operational functions. The program will also familiarize students with the specific skills needed to be successful in HVAC Mechanical department. Required to deliver a “report-out” presentation at the end of internship. Experience/Education Requirements: + Actively enrolled in an associate or bachelor’s degree program with one or two years of academic training in Controls, Automation, Electrical Engineering or related technical field. + Strong knowledge of engineering fundamentals, commissioning, HVAC concepts and business operations. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Knowledge of industry programs as required to remain competitive. + Understanding of PID Loops and Control Tuning + Understanding of Variable Frequency Drives and Parameters + Knowledge of basic electricity theory and electronic gate logic + Technical aptitude and advanced computer skills, including MS Office (excel, word, power point), Adobe Writer and Visio. + A valid Driver’s License and ability to travel to customer work sites as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. + Assist with the development of HVAC equipment drawings, schedules, submittals, sequences of operations, material lists, network layouts, electrical schematics, and as built drawings. + Software and graphic programming support + Understand agreements and work scope + Assist in compiling cost estimates and prepare proposals, selecting hardware designs from several different control vendors + Provide assistance to field engineers and project managers during all project phases. + Work with other technicians to provide technical recommendations on projects + Assist in providing direction and support to field teams in the installation and execution of contracts + Perform material ordering and verification as directed + Perform and assist in the commissioning of the controls and associated equipment. + Aggressively adhere to the required safety standards and requirements of the company and our customers. + Able to travel locally to client work sites.
