🚀 About the Position
The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, month-end closing, and compliance with GAAP standards. This role manages treasury functions, budgeting, and cost accounting to optimize cash flow and financial performance. The Controller will lead software integration efforts, streamline accounts payable, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial strategies with business objectives. Additionally, this role will mentor a small accounting team, driving efficiency and data integrity. Ideal candidates will have strong accounting experience, leadership skills, and a background in system implementations.
🌟 What We’re Looking For
Accounting & Financial Oversight:
+ Journal Entries & Month-End Close: Lead the journal entry process and ensure a timely and accurate month-end close.
+ Bank Reconciliation: Oversee and complete daily bank reconciliations ensuring accurate and timely cash postings into our bank accounts, accounting software, and ERP system.
+ Treasury Management: Prepare cash flow analysis to support cash management and liquidity optimization across the organization.
+ Financial Reporting & Statements: Prepare comprehensive financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with company goals.
+ Internal Controls & Compliance: Ensure strong internal controls, compliance with accounting standards (GAAP), and accurate financial reporting.
+ Audit Support: Manage external audits and ensure timely preparation and submission of all necessary documentation.
+ Tax Support: Ensure timely preparation of sales and property tax returns. Communicate effectively with outsourced accounting firms to ensure timely preparation of business’s income tax returns.
+ Budgeting & Financial Planning: Lead the development and management of the company’s annual budget, working closely with department heads to ensure alignment with strategic goals. Monitor budget performance throughout the year, provide variance analysis, and recommend corrective actions to ensure financial targets are met.
+ Accounts Payable Management: Oversee and streamline the accounts payable (AP) process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and vendor reconciliations. Implement best practices to optimize cash flow, improve payment terms, and ensure compliance with company policies and financial controls.
+ Procurement Oversight: Oversee exiting procurement team to ensure consistency with HSS’s cash management, inventory on hand, and sourcing strategies.
+ Cost Accounting: Oversee cost accounting processes, ensuring accurate allocations and margin calculations to drive financial performance and support data-driven decision-making.
Software Integration & System Transition:
+ Accounting Software Integration: Play a key role in the integration and implementation of a new accounting software system, ensuring the smooth transition from the old system and maintaining financial data integrity.
+ Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with the IT, operations, and finance teams to ensure software systems are implemented effectively, data flows seamlessly, and stakeholders are properly trained.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
+ Manage the Accounting Team: Lead and mentor a small team of accountants, ensuring they meet deadlines, produce accurate work, and contribute to a positive team environment.
+ Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with department heads (e.g., Operations, IT, Procurement, HR) to align financial and procurement strategies with company-wide objectives, supporting scalable growth and process improvement.
🎓 Qualifications for Success
+ Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or other relevant certifications preferred.
+ 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a senior accounting or leadership role (Controller, Accounting Manager, etc.).
+ Proven experience leading accounting teams
+ Experience with accounting system implementations (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar) preferred but not required
+ Strong proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or equivalent).
+ Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
+ Familiarity with procurement software and ERP systems.
+ Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
+ Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
+ Highly organized with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
+ Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and financial integrity.
+ Ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

💸 Compensation
+ Starting at $85,000 annually, with the potential for a higher salary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
