Fluidra’s looking for a Contract Firmware Test Engineer to join our team in Carlsbad, CA. This contract is estimated to be 9 months with the possibility of extension.
WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
We are seeking a Firmware Test Engineer to ensure the quality, performance, and reliability of our embedded systems and firmware applications. The ideal candidate will have experience in testing embedded software, debugging firmware issues, and working closely with hardware and software development teams to deliver high-quality products. Additionally, you will:
Conduct functional, regression, integration, and performance testing on embedded firmware.Develop, execute, and maintain test plans, test cases, and test scripts based on software requirements.Identify, document, and track bugs using issue-tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Bugzilla, or similar).Work closely with developers to ensure defects are resolved and verify fixes through retesting.Supports and contributes to a variety of test phase efforts.Conduct cross-platform testing to ensure compatibility.Collaborate with firmware developers, hardware engineers, and product managers to diagnose and resolve defects.Perform manual and automated testing of embedded systems and IoT devices.Conduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing.Utilize tools such as Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, JTAG Debuggers, and Serial Consoles for troubleshootingValidate communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, and Bluetooth/Wi-FiPerform stress testing, reliability testing, and compliance testing for firmware stability.Validate UI/UX elements for consistency and adherence to design guidelines.Assist in user acceptance testing (UAT) and collaborate with stakeholders for final approval.Develop and execute automated test scripts using Python or other scripting languagesStay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best testing practices.
WHAT WE SEEK
Background in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field2+ years of relevant experience in firmware/software testing, quality control, or quality assurance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, developers, and managementAbility to work effectively independently or in a team environmentStrong mechanical/electrical aptitudeFamiliarity with JIRA/Agile is a big plusExperience in Python, C/C++ or similar programming languages with an ability to build tools and write scripts for testing is a big plusPrevious testing and validation experience with Serial, USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, embedded software, or IoT products and technologies is a big plusExperience with API testing using Postman or similar tools is a big plusExperience with interface debugging tool (e.g. Wireshark, protocol analyzer) is a big plus
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or another related field.
