Consumer Credit Director

Summary:

The Consumer Credit Director will lead a team dedicated to developing, implementing, and enhancing credit risk oversight processes in support of the overall Corporate Risk Management framework for all consumer lending lines of business. This role involves direct communication of current issues and credit risk strategies via the Credit Policy and Strategy Committee. Key responsibilities include evaluating and monitoring consumer credit risk appetite, tolerance, and thresholds, as well as overseeing credit and operational risk assessments, delinquency/loss mitigation, enforcement of credit risk policies, and portfolio monitoring.

The Consumer Credit Director will collaborate with the first line of defense to shape the consumer credit risk profile across all products. Additionally, the director will manage the Default Services team, overseeing collection activities, credit reporting, and consumer bankruptcy management. The role also includes leading credit responsibilities for small business banking activities, both SBA and conventional, providing credit oversight and strategic direction.

This individual will lead a team that identifies, assesses, and addresses various credit risks across all lending lines of business. The role requires interaction with internal risk management peers, including other first line of defense teams, corporate risk functions, internal audit, and external regulators.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Drive Credit Performance: Implement step-change improvements by linking future consumer credit trends to historical behavior and portfolio risk appetite.Align Credit Strategies: Ensure credit strategies for consumer products align with the overall risk appetite and strategic vision. Maintain Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), early warning monitoring, and credit risk dashboards to ensure clear communication and tracking of credit risks throughout the organization.Strategic Partnership: Act as a key partner in developing consumer portfolio strategies, balancing credit risk expertise with corporate growth and profitability goals.Policy Development: Develop and update consumer credit lending policies and administrative procedures. Validate that current policies align with portfolio risk tolerance and collaborate with business unit partners to ensure accurate policy implementation.Lending Authority: Oversee the approval and administration of consumer lending authority.Team Leadership: Lead a team of consumer portfolio analysts to ensure adherence to strategic direction and risk thresholds, fostering collaboration with lending functions.Build expertise within the team for portfolio analysis, ensuring delivery on risk evaluation initiatives and creating engaging credit risk presentations for management and executive committees.Promote continuous growth and development for team members, maintaining professionalism, integrity, and a collaborative mindset.Portfolio Metrics: Lead the design and monitoring of portfolio metrics to track past performance and anticipate future trends in consumer credit portfolios.Advanced Analytics: Conduct sophisticated analytics to develop best-in-class credit analysis and strategies. Deliver regular credit risk reporting to senior leadership and internal credit monitoring committees, focusing on credit risk limits, portfolio resilience, and ongoing performance.Corporate Reporting: Provide final review and input for corporate-level credit reporting, including concentration reports, risk profile reports, and key quarterly metrics.Loss Forecasting: Responsible for loss forecasting for all consumer products.Regulatory Liaison: Serve as the key liaison to regulatory agencies, external accountants, consultants, and other stakeholders. Ensure transparent communication about credit performance and emerging risks, acting as a subject matter expert for regulatory partners on Consumer credit impacts and portfolio information.Industry Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the financial industry, economy, market conditions, and competitors. Monitor emerging trends in consumer behavior, macroeconomic impacts, and competitive insights, developing hypotheses on how these factors may affect the business.Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, economics or a related field15+ years of experience in credit administration, consumer lending, portfolio management, data science, risk management, or related field6+ years of experience in leading a team of analytics professionalsProven leadership and team management skills, with experience in developing and mentoring staff.Proficiency in credit risk assessment tools, financial analysis, and relevant software applicationsStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct sophisticated credit analysis and develop strategic insightsIn-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to consumer credit.Up-to-date knowledge of the financial industry, market conditions, and emerging trends.

Preferred Qualifications         

Master’s degreeAnalytics or risk management certification (CFA, CRMP)Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management and to external audiences. Ability to present complex information clearly to executive management and regulatory bodies.Ability to influence and direct others at all levels; ability to create ‘presence’ and be viewed as a thought leader who can shape future thinking.Exposure to various data repository structures, data extraction methods and experience with analytical / statistical tools – SAS, SQL, Knowledge Studio, Tableau, etc.

Compensation Range:

170,000.00 - 260,000.00 - 350,000.00 USD

The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.  Colleagues in this position are also eligible to participate in an applicable incentive compensation plan.  In addition, Huntington provides a variety of benefits to colleagues, including health insurance coverage, wellness program, life and disability insurance, retirement savings plan, paid leave programs, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
