Consultant – Energy Analytics

Description

We are hiring for a consultant to work in our Flexible Load Management (FLM) Analytics practice. You will contribute to the enhancement of analytical capabilities of the team, develop subject matter expertise in the Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) i.e., energy efficiency, demand response, solar and storage to name a few technologies, and help support utilities and/or government agencies boost their FLM programs to meet the demands of the future. As part of your role, you will have opportunities to apply your academic knowledge as well as any prior industry experience, while interacting with experts and clients in the field. Our consultants are provided with ample materials to develop specialized skillsets in the DER space, in an environment that fosters growth.

Key Responsibilities

Implement and enhance quantitative and economic analyses that assess FLM value

Assist with Distributed Energy Resources evaluation, potential studies, emerging technology impact studies, program design etc.

Conduct market research on various DER technologies including measure adoption, saturation, feasibility, etc.​

Assist with evaluating and benchmarking DER program​s; and developing and designing innovative DER program strategies and roadmaps​

Support the development of internal- and external-facing tools and workflows that enable strategic decision-making process​.

Manage and analyze large datasets using Excel functions, presenting analytical outputs using Power BI, R and/or Python visualization tools

Prepare and present persuasive presentations and short reports to stakeholders​, co-author reports and other client deliverables, journal articles, white papers, and marketing pieces ​

Basic Qualifications

Masters degree in Mechanical, Architectural, Building Science, Energy Management, Energy Policy and Planning, or related majors with 2-4 years of experience in the energy industry.

Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with exposure to programming in R or Python, and ability to handle large data in excel

Strong writing and communication skills

A passion for the energy industry, with specific interest in DERs including DER technology assessment (ex., Energy Efficiency, Demand Side Management, Demand Response, Solar, Storage, etc.)

Understanding of economic valuation such as NPV and IRR analysis, and utility cost-effectiveness tests

Basic understanding of the US/Canada energy policy and regulation, especially related to DER

Preferred Skills/Experience

Related US/Canada energy industry experience, including experience in DER technology assessment (e.g., EE, DR, solar and storage)

Experience with energy modeling tools (e.g., OpenStudio, EnergyPlus)

Intermediate to Advanced programming/scripting skills in R or Python

Exposure to Technical reference manuals used across utilities in US market
