Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated Construction Materials Testing Technician to join our team. This role involves conducting field testing and sampling of construction materials, performing laboratory tests, and preparing detailed and accurate reports. You will primarily work on construction sites, with occasional lab work as needed. This position offers hands-on experience and the opportunity for career growth, with training and certification costs covered by the company.
ResponsibilitiesConduct field testing and sampling of construction materials.Perform laboratory tests on soil, concrete, and asphalt samples.Prepare detailed and accurate reports of test results.Communicate findings to project managers, engineers, and clients.Ensure all testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.Adhere to safety protocols and company policies at all times.Assist with other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Document the testing of concrete, soil, and other construction materials in the field.Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for testing at each construction site.Start the day at the office to pick up the necessary equipment.Commute to the construction site to conduct sampling.Use various equipment, including concrete testing tools, wheelbarrow and shovel, air meter, slump cone, and nuclear density gauge.Collect data from WisDOT and civil projects.Record data using handwritten notes and enter it into spreadsheets.Return all equipment and documentation to the office at the end of the day.Essential SkillsField experience in construction.Understanding of construction sites, including contractors, safety hazards, and equipment.Ability to conduct testing on concrete, soil, aggregate, and other materials.Ability to produce handwritten field reports.Basic technology skills for using spreadsheets and other data collection equipment.Effective communication with contractors, owner's representatives, engineers, and other stakeholders.Strong attendance and punctuality.Additional Skills & QualificationsConstruction field experience.Ability to work in all weather conditions and overtime.Attention to detail to avoid costly errors.Clear driving record for operating company vehicles.Positive attitude and a desire for hands-on field experience.No specific years of experience required.Work Environment
During peak season, expect to work 45-50 hours a week, with occasional Saturdays required. Typical working hours are Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM, but this can vary depending on project requirements. Be prepared for weather-related adjustments to these hours and working from sunup to sundown during the construction season. Most work is based out of the local office, with occasional tasks in the Milwaukee area. The role requires wearing PPE (hard hat, work boots, vest, safety glasses) when on site. The company provides necessary training and certification costs, PPE, a company vehicle, and a cell phone reimbursement of up to $25 per month. Employees are eligible for annual reviews and pay increases. Currently, PTO is not offered, but unpaid time off can be taken as needed.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00
