Hourly base pay rate is $26.06 - $39.13/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Job Description

Cox’s Outside Plant Engineering & Construction department is responsible for building the network of the future our customers rely on for both residential and business needs. The Construction Crewmember I is responsible for the construction, repair, and inspection of our Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network to provide voice, video, and data service to residential and commercial customers. Coordinates with utility entities for required permits, joint trench requests, pole applications, and service issues.  Construction Crewmembers I will perform aerial make ready activities, simple pole transfers, activation of new network and repair/replace of underground structures. This role requires interaction with key stakeholders and partners, as well as homeowners, new customers and utility entities.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Responsible for maintaining proper spacing from energized conductors as well as height requirements as prescribed in the GO95, GO198, NESC, NEC, utility and Cox construction specifications.Activates HFC plantPerforms simple pole transfer and make ready activitiesResponsible for building placing strand, inclusive of including guys, bonds, grounds, etc.Implements Traffic Control & Safety protocol where applicableResponsible for identifying and logging enterprise tickets to repair clearance infractions and/or GO95 and GO128 infractions as well as other safety issues.   Reads and interprets system prints including system design maps and digital drawings.Responsible for maintaining proper spacing from energized conductors as well as height requirements as prescribed in the GO95, GO198, NESC, NEC, utility and Cox construction specifications.Repairs and maintains overhead and underground lines. Responds to and determines proper course of action in emergency call-in situations to repair damaged cable lines. Replaces or reroutes cables and splices electronic equipment.Participates in the construction and /or repair of fiber, coax, and copper plant for networks. May coordinate and inspect work done by contract labor.Performs routine work to locate and mark underground cable lines in order to perform digs and other construction work to minimize cable damages.Inspects for location of placement of facilities, work of contract labor, depth trenches and follows underground construction standards. Marks placement of cable plant.Coordinates contract labor for construction projects and inspects final work.Uses computerized tools and programs (Oracle) to coordinate bill of materials, purchase materials, maintain inventory levels, reconciles invoices, street release forms, zone changes, as well as computerized mapping systems.Ensures that work performed in a timely and professional manner and meets all regulations, specifications and standards set forth by the company and government agencies.May enter data into computerized databases to track homes passed, maintain serviceability information, or node splits. Responsible for obtaining construction permits, utility permits and pole applications including make-ready, right-of-way, railroad, road bore and crossing permits. Creates and files traffics plans for construction projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum

High School Diploma/GEDGenerally less than 2 years’ experience in a related field (i.e. Technical Operations, etc.)Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license requiredWorking knowledge of coax networksExcellent communication skills to work effectively with teams throughout organization and external entities
