Hire Resolve’s client in the Renewable Energy Sector is seeking the expertise of a Construction Contracts Manager in Cape Town. The project spans two locations, in the Northern Cape, and Eastern Cape hybrid role
The entire project will be controlled by a virtual power plant controller, ensuring full dispatchability according to program requirements.
Role Summary: As the Construction Contracts Manager, you will play a critical role in advising and assisting Umoyilanga Project Management teams. Your responsibilities will include managing purchasing and selling contracts related to the Power Purchase Agreement and overseeing contractual elements throughout the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning phases. You’ll collaborate closely with Avondale and Dassiesridge Project Managers, as well as the Umoyilanga Engineering Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer project contracts and associated documents. Provide oversight and advisory input during contract management activities. Act as a focal point for contract-related matters from Financial Close to Final Acceptance (as defined by the EPC Contract). Before Financial Close: Align relevant clauses in various contracts. Advise on optimizing efficiency during the implementation phase. Risk Assessment: Lead and direct all contractual aspects, including risk assessment. In-Depth Knowledge: Understand the Power Purchase Agreement, EPC Contract, O&M Agreement, and other Project Agreements/permits/consents. Manage stakeholders effectively in line with contractual obligations. Upstream Contracting Process: Optimize contractual commitments, quality, deadlines, milestones, costs, risks, and opportunities. Challenge scope and target market value. Clarity and Risk Identification: Ensure clear communication of schedule, deliverables, terms, and technical limits to contractors. Contribute to identifying Project risks and opportunities. Contract Enforcement: Apply contractual mechanisms and enforce mutual obligations. Identify contract strengths and weaknesses. Progress Monitoring: Collaborate with Work Package Leaders to steer physical progress. Periodically re-estimate remaining work for cost control. Change Management: Manage potential changes in contractor commitments. Ensure traceability of contract-related events. Compile evidence for defending the company’s interests in case of claims.Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Degree in Engineering and/or Construction Law (desirable). Minimum 7 years of experience in large complex projects within the Renewable Energy industry, preferably in the REIPPPP. Professional Certification in Contracts Management (recommended). Ability to analyze non-contractual matters (engineering, cost control, planning, construction) to provide relevant contractual support. Collaborative, solutions-oriented approach with strong communication skills. Team player with the ability to work independently and manage priorities. Availability for regular site travel and extended working hours as needed.
