**Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities**
POWER Engineers is currently seeking a talented computer or electrical engineering student for a summer internship. This position is posted for the Lakewood, CO office location with the ability to work in-office at least 3 days a week. The successful applicant will be assisting in performing automation activities, providing programming support for various initiatives, engaging in innovation activities, and supporting business unit activities. Activities will include one or more of the following:
+ Assist in the development of Functional Design Specifications (FDS) to summarize all requirements for an application that will be developed, including how the application will function and how team members will use it.
+ Adherence to the QA/QC Guidelines adopted by POWER Engineers for Software Development.
+ Tool development and maintenance of these tools to help facilitate efficiencies and quality improvement within production activities. Tools will be developed in Python, MS Apps, POWER BI, Access, C#, Microsoft Power Apps, Power Automate, Smartsheet, and similar industry standard applications.
+ Tool Development will help POWER Engineers to perform the following activities:
+ Data Acquisition: Prepare points lists of all data to be transferred between control centers and controlled apparatus, assign and program data addressing and routing information, develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens, travel to project sites to test and commission data transfer schemes. Applicable Software: Wonderware, Clearview, AcSELerator RTAC, Visual Basic, OSIPI, Python scripting, etc.
+ Networking and Communications: design and configure network and communication paths for Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), protective relays, meters, Human Machine Interface (HMIs), PLC’s and other SCADA system equipment; develop basic specifications for fiber optic, microwave, power line carrier, or radio communication paths; travel to project sites to troubleshoot and commission network and communication systems. Applicable network and communication protocols: DNP, Modbus, SEL Communication Protocol, GOOSE Messaging, Sampled Values, and MMS.
+ Logic and Control Systems: develop and implement logic and control schemes for remote and local operation of power system equipment; develop programs on various platforms for implementation of these schemes; travel to project sites to test and commission the control schemes. Applicable Logic and Control Platforms: SEL RTAC, NovaTech OrionLX, Cooper SMP, GE-D20.
+ Protective Relaying: short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, time-current coordination, protection scheme and criteria development, relay settings calculation, integration with SCADA systems, NERC compliance, and arc flash analysis.
+ Power System Planning Studies: steady-state real and reactive power flow including outage contingencies, generation interconnect feasibility, P-V and Q-V analysis for voltage stability margins, dynamic stability performance, automation of large batch simulations, working with models from NERC regional entities, NERC compliance. Applicable Software: Python Scripting.

+ Early Talent Speaker Series where leaders speak to interns about their role, vision for the company, and career path, offer career advice, and a Q&A session.
+ Fun Friday activities where interns company-wide join to network and have some fun while doing it.
**Required Education/Experience**
+ Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in computer or electrical engineering from an accredited university
+ Successful completion of entry-level courses in engineering or computer science
+ Good written and verbal communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members
+ Candidate is interested in consulting engineering and the electric utility industry
+ Candidates must be able to work successfully in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment
+ Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
**Desired Education/Experience**
+ Preference is given to applicants with any of the following: GPA above 3.3/4.0, database development, data structure algorithms, Python scripting experience, java experience, coding experience, Microsoft Power Apps use, Smartsheet experience, and power system knowledge.
+ Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills will be critical for successful completion of tasks
+ Prior internship and/or power systems related engineering experience is a plus

Base Salary Range: $20 - $30/hr
The range for this position is being displayed in compliance with all state and local regulations. Salaries are set based on a number of factors to include an individual's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This means that no two candidates are alike.
