Job Description The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City clean, safe, and healthy by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning streets, attacking the scourge of illegal dumping, and clearing snow and ice. The Department operates 59 district garages and manages a fleet of more than 2,000 rear-loading collection trucks, 450 mechanical brooms, 705 salt spreaders, and several dozen bike lane operations machines. Under the Adams Administration, the Department is aggressively cleaning more parts of the City than ever before, including over 1,000 long-ignored areas spread across every neighborhood. With the highest wintertime uniformed headcount in 20 years, DSNY is more equipped than ever to remove snow and ice from the approximately 19,000 lane-miles of City streets. DSNY seeks 2 Compliance Agents for the Derelict Vehicle Operations (DVO) unit. The Compliance Agents will be responsible for inspecting and establishing the criteria of all vehicles brought into the yard by the contract driver. The Compliance Agents will determine if vehicles meet the requirement for the derelict vehicle program using the vehicle year and criteria each vehicle is found to have. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: - Identifies Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) and when the public VIN is not available, locate the secondary VIN with assistance from the National insurance crime bureau. - Processes all DMV paperwork for transfer of vehicle to private contract holder (MV907A, DS464) - Maintains all daily logs of derelict vehicles (DS269) - Completes all DVO SMART Functions- Update DS 464’s, Place Vehicles on HOLD, take Vehicles off HOLD, pull DS 464’s for DSNY Supervisor and assign to Vendor - Answers all inquiries by NYPD, city agencies and the insurance companies regarding vehicles recovered by the private contract holder. - Assists the contract Supervisor in managing the operation of the yard duties, reporting all unusual occurrences. - Contacts and works with all IT personnel in the event of computer system failure, to bring the yard back online - Assists private contract drivers with locating vehicles to be removed from the areas of contract responsibility. - Assists with all Enforcement Impounded Vehicle Processing and Releasing - Assists with all Vendor Sweep Confiscated Material Processing and Releasing Qualifications 1. By the last day of the Application Period, you must have a 4-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent. Driver License Requirement: You must have a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment. This license must be maintained for the duration of your employment. Serious moving violations, license suspensions or accident record may disqualify you.
