Community Outreach Worker I
*The University of Maryland School of Social Work has an opportunity for a/contractual, full-time/Community Outreach Worker I.*Reporting to the Director of B’more for Healthy Babies at the Center for Restorative Change, the Community Outreach Worker I will engage youth, young adults, schools, parent/caregivers and community organizations to identify expectant and parenting youth who reside in West Baltimore. This position will facilitate reproductive and sexual health educational groups and provide case management to teens who are in high school or attending alternative school or programs, or who are in the Home and Hospital Program. All employees are expected to work primarily physically within the State of Maryland.* *Essential Functions* * Attend meetings and trainings hosted by the lead agency and community based partners. * Conduct community outreach to schools and community based organizations to identify expecting and parenting teenagers/young adults who are eligible to receive case management services. * Provides general information to individuals and families on program objectives and services; eligibility requirements and benefits; confidentiality of information, etc. * Provide and oversee individual reproductive health case management for 13–23-year-olds, including one-on-one health education and referrals for tangible needs, resources, and perinatal health and mental health care. * Collect documentation of group attendance, services utilized, and the resources distributed to clients. * Serves as a liaison between the clients and community resources. * Maintains a good working relationship with all members of the community. *Education:* High-school diploma or GED required. *Experience:* Experience in engaging youth/young adults and facilitating groups with this population preferred. Experience in conducting community outreach and engagement preferred. *Other:*Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* * Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary to engage and interact effectively and professionally with staff, clients and families, including strong public speaking and listening skills. * Knowledge of sexual/reproductive and perinatal health information. * Demonstrated attention to details and a conscientious attitude. * Experience in facilitation of groups and community meetings. * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. * Ability to interact with the public, health care providers, community organizations, and social service agencies. * Ability to maintain poise and courtesy under pressure. Based on the duties of this position, selected candidates/*are not*/eligible to participate in the Bargaining Unit (Union). *Hiring Range:*$41,322.87 - $43,000, commensurate with education and experience.
