Jacobs is seeking a Community Development Director to join our team in the Baton Rouge, LA area. In this role, you'll be responsible for the following:
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement long-term strategic plans for the Community Development Department, aligning with the city's overall goals with the growth and development of the city.
Operational Oversight: Oversee daily operations, including Planning, Building Services, Code Enforcement and Land Development. Review and update local development and planning ordinances to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations coupled with the community needs. Coordinate with the City Clerk to schedule and prepare agendas for Planning and Zoning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings. Plans for and holds public meetings or hearings, including public notices, press releases, and notices to surrounding properties. • Responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining the City’s Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Ordinance.
Financial Management: Prepare, prioritize, and manage annual operating and capital budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure fiscal responsibility.
Team Leadership: Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing team of planning and development professionals.
Community Engagement: Build strong relationships with residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to address concerns and promote public works initiatives. Including representing the city/client in town halls, public meetings, and community meetings to present planning changes and receive community feedback.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
Emergency Response: Develop, manage, and coordinate comprehensive, emergency response efforts, such as natural disasters or severe weather events while collaborating with other city and state agencies, contractors, and local officials to ensure a safe, swift, and effective response.

• BS degree in Urban Planning or a related field, including Urban Studies, Geography, Environmental Studies/Science, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, GIS, Public Administration, Political Science, or other similarly related fields;
• Eight (8) years of experience in planning, zoning and development review.
• Requires a Professional certification with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or the ability to complete certification in 18 months.
Ideally, You'll Also Have:
• Master's degree in Urban Planning or a related field, including Urban Studies, Geography, Environmental Studies/Science, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, GIS, Public Administration, Political Science, or other similarly related fields
