Commodity Specialist

Job Specification (not totally inclusive)

 

Analyzing commodities: build and maintain TCO, BCC matrix, usage analysis, and spend analysis; Analyzing supplier market, build and maintain its matrix, cost model, technological developments, and commercial trends; Ensuring the procurement of goods and services is consistent with the procurement policy and business requirements; Managing contracts to ensure all terms are complied with; and drawing up contracts and getting approval when required; Participating in identifying and implementing cost reduction initiatives; Analyzing price adjustment requests, negotiating, and recommending prices changes; Monitoring supplier performance via SAP and address deviation; Scheduling, facilitating, and chairing monthly management meetings with suppliers; Participating  in determining commodity and sourcing strategies; Identifying suppliers, drawing up and issuing RFQ’s; and Evaluating  tenders and participating in supplier selection. Minimum Skills required.

 

Grade 12; Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management / Engineering is required; At least five years’ experience working in procurement of industrial commodities in Manufacturing/Engineering environment; Sound knowledge of strategic sourcing practices and processes in a commodity management environment; An exposure to Strategic Sourcing i.e., Facilitating First Articles is essential; Sound understanding of Preferential Procurement; Ability to interpret technical concepts; SAP/R3 experience and; must be computer literate in MS office suit (advanced excel); and Valid driver’s license and own transport. Behavioural Competencies required.

 

Must have good leadership skills and can communicate at all levels; Must have good interpersonal, relationship building and negotiation skills; Excellent problem solving, analytical skills and commercially minded;  and Must be agile and able to prioritize work tasks to support business requirements.
