Blue Origin is seeking an experienced and dynamic Commodity Manager to join our new and growing EU Supply Chain organization.  As a leader in the aerospace industry, Blue Origin is committed to giving humanity access to the stars and building a future in which millions of people can live and work in space. To support this effort and by increase our global supplier base, Blue Origin is launching an EU Supply Chain team to find, on-board, and manage EU-based suppliers.    

 

If you are passionate about solving problems, building new processes, driving supply chain excellence, and thrive in a fast-paced and innovative international environment, we would love to hear from you.  As part of a small group of hardworking, passionate, and accomplished experts, you will be responsible for working closely with the US-based Commodity teams to identify opportunities for expanding sourcing options and then working locally to find, qualify, on-board, and ultimately manage supplier performance that support these needs.  In addition, you will play an integral role in cross-functional process and global cost improvement initiatives. scale the supplier base and drive procurement cost improvements and lead time reductions.  This will include supporting discussions with Legal, Trade Compliance, Transportation, and other teams to ensure the timeliness and cost effectiveness of cross-border logistics. This role will have dual reporting relationships to both an EU manager for day-to-day operations and an US-based Commodity leader for strategic procurement direction.

Responsibilities:

Provide strategic leadership in the evaluation, sourcing, and development of the aerospace materials supply base to support the development and production of space vehicles.  Develop category procurement strategy, goals and savings targets in line with company strategy and procurement best practices  Evaluate strategies based on up-to-date supply market analysis and category risk analysis while adapting to changing market conditions  Ensure materials are secured and delivered at the lowest total cost, while maintaining or improving, quality and on time delivery to support program requirements.  Participate in use and improvement of databases to guide sourcing activity and capture supplier status, history, criticality, operational performance, and known issues.  Work with program stakeholders to identify & overcome long lead procurement requirements and gaps in supply base capabilities.  Evaluate suitability and stability of current and potential suppliers regarding financial health, staffing, quality, throughput, technical capability, capacity, and reputation.  Lead suppliers through the resolution of discrepancies or schedule delays, including corrective and preventive actions and recovery plans.  Identify opportunities to leverage existing supplier relationships, obtain price/cost reductions, rationalize/consolidate the supply base, secure favorable long-term agreements, maintain alternate supplier options, and support long term supplier relationships.  Conduct supplier business reviews to communicate supplier performance to internal and supplier management teams.  Conduct site surveys and business evaluations of existing and potential suppliers, and participates in supplier quality audits, and resolution of corrective actions with suppliers.  

  

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years of related experience, of which ideally at least 2 years at Blue Origin. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field. Experience working with engineers on complex, build-to-spec products in the New Product Introduction (NPI) stage Supplier quality experience, including an understanding of AS9100 requirements. Minimum 3 years experience in category management or strategic sourcing and pricing/contract negotiations. Self-starter with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, and independently. Experience with cross-border logistics, including customs regulations and US export restrictions as relate to aerospace. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Exceptional organizational and analytical skills, and a proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight.  Direct experience executing contracts from start to finish, utilizing strong financial and project management capabilities. Comfortable working in a matrix organization. Must be able to travel up to 50% of time and to remote sites. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.    

 

Desired:

 Master’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Experience with aerospace and / or capital intensive industry. Engineering or technical experience. Proven track record of leading cost-improvement and/or joint-process improvement initiatives with cross-functional teams Deep knowledge of procurement, sourcing, planning, manufacturing, logistics, quality management, and inventory control principles and practices.  Familiarity with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and industry best practices related to supply chain management.  Experience with ERP systems in a manufacturing environment. Six sigma/lean process improvement experience. 
 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $100,997.00-$141,395.10
