Are you only a year from finishing school and looking for an exciting career opportunity with Siemens? Our unique Dual Education program prepares you for future leadership roles in the company. The Siemens Certified Education & Talent Academy (SCETA) program combines theory and practice in a work-integrated learning program (WILP) geared towards technical and professional students. It offers students a wide array of technical, interpersonal, and business acumen training and places them in roles within various industry units within Siemens Canada.

The SCETA program starts with a 3-week paid orientation, and students complete two summer work terms beginning in May 2025. Once their SCETA terms are complete, proficient students may be hired full-time with Siemens.

What will you do?

We are currently looking for a Commodity Management Intern who would report directly to our Head of Procurement in our Concord, ON, location to ensure strategic procurement for the assigned commodities to achieve the best Total Cost of Ownership.

The Commodity Management Professional plays a key role in managing the procurement of materials to meet business needs. This involves working with suppliers, analyzing markets, supporting cost-saving initiatives, and collaborating with various teams to optimize processes and strategies. The role provides an opportunity to develop critical supply chain management and procurement skills while contributing to organizational success. 

Source materials that meet customer requirements by balancing cost, quality, and on-time delivery. Support efforts to identify the most efficient suppliers while ensuring alignment with organizational standards. Contribute to cost reduction efforts by supporting negotiations, implementing savings measures, and collaborating on procurement strategies to achieve material cost targets. Assist in market research by analyzing trends and supplier capabilities, providing insights that guide sourcing decisions and help identify innovative opportunities in the supply chain. Support supplier management processes, including evaluation, qualification, and development, to build and maintain relationships with reliable, high-performing partners. Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, Product Management, and Procurement teams to align supplier selection and materials sourcing with business objectives and product development needs. Help monitor and improve procurement processes by using globally defined methods, tools, and systems to ensure efficiency and compliance with procurement guidelines. Provide input for ongoing projects by assessing material requirements, analyzing costs, and identifying potential savings to optimize project outcomes. Support sourcing decisions by preparing cost analyses, benchmarking supplier options, and evaluating system architectures to ensure competitive pricing and reliable supply. Participate actively in workshops and supplier negotiations by contributing data-driven insights, such as cost breakdowns and market trends, to achieve the best value for the organization.

What will you need to succeed?

Pursuing a Business Administration or Engineering degree or Diploma in Supply Chain Experience in procurement, contract, and supplier management is an asset. Understanding of various supplier manufacturing technology and processes, supplier controls and industry standards is an asset. The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and quality-related documents is an asset. Specialized knowledge of these specific commodities (electronic manufacturing services, printed circuit boards, integrated circuits, metal fabrication/machining, plastic molding, etc.) is an asset. Strong collaboration, persuasion/influencing abilities, project management skills, and the ability to drive supplier change projects on a cross-functional basis. Having negotiation and influencing skills with suppliers, with demonstrative results in securing competitive pricing and overall terms and conditions is an asset. Experience in souring parts for product development is an asset. Familiarity with MS Office and SAP is an asset. Possessing commercial, technical and digital skills is an asset. You have a growth mindset with a passion for learning. You are agile and technically savvy, with a knack for generating solutions. You are a creative thinker with a unique ability to be resourceful.
