Job Purpose

RES currently provides High Voltage Operations and Maintenance (HV O&M) Services to renewable energy assets in the UK & Ireland. Due to increased demand from our clients, we are seeking a Commissioning Engineer (CE) to grow and expand this service.

The Commissioning Engineer role will be site based across our portfolio of onshore & offshore wind, solar & battery storage sites, performing maintenance, installation, and commissioning duties, with home/office-based working for preparations and reporting writing.

RES are looking for an experienced Commissioning Engineer who can undertake site installations, protection maintenance, protection defect rectification and general commissioning activities across our portfolio at all voltages preferably up to 400KV. 

As this role is based across our UK&I portfolio, the successful candidate must be willing to travel around the UK to various sites, so they must have a full UK driving license. However, preparation & report writing will be based either from home or a UK office.

Accountabilities

The responsibilities of the Commissioning Engineer include:

To ensure a safe and healthy working environment for themselves and others, at office or site locations. Operating to site requirements, project method statements and risk assessments, and RES HV safety rules. Supervising/performing of commissioning activities on switchgear, transformers, generation (or storage) assets and related equipment on both AC & DC systems. Carry out protection and control testing on generation (or storage), HV & LV assets to diagnose any faults and organise repairs. Carry out wiring modifications and retrofit upgrade to sites where protection systems may have issues. Attend site and interact with suppliers, construction teams, sub-contractors, and grid connection providers to ensure safe and successful commissioning programme. Perform SAT, system start-up testing and co-ordination with utilities for energisation of interconnection. Undertaking FAT, including reviewing of procedures, attending FAT and adjusting commissioning tasks to integrate FAT successes and deficiencies. Ensuring as-built drawings/documents are marked up correctly and updated where necessary. Tracking and resolving issues by working with HV SAPs/ project managers and any sub-contractors. Coordinating the delivery of contestable/non-contestable grid connections. Be involved in the tendering process for new renewable sites and providing input into commissioning aspects. Provide in house training and support to our HV SAP team to widen the scope of the business’s abilities for our clients.

Knowledge

Essential:

Detailed knowledge of commissioning practices and testing Ability to provide technical support and guidance. Knowledge of the key legislation underpinning UK high voltage electrical asset operation and maintenance Detailed knowledge of UK industry HV electrical safety rules

Desirable:

Knowledge of solar farm assets

Skills

Essential:

Ability to provide in house training to new starters (testing). Excellent communication and people skills. Ability to coordinate multiple activities whilst ensuring safety and quality are maintained. Ability to identify problems, conduct analysis and develop solutions.

Desirable:

Knowledge of relay computer software

Experience

Essential:

Experienced Commissioning Engineer / Commissioning Manager. Experience commissioning primary and secondary plant. Commissioning and fault finding HV plant and equipment. HV protection testing Experience of HV & LV equipment. Complex Protection relay testing and commissioning.

Qualifications

Essential:

Commissioning Engineer SAP authorisation / previously held SAP authorisation under high voltage electrical safety rules Relevant Degree/HND or equivalent industry experience NEBOSH General Certificate Full UK driving licence

Desirable:
