This trading footprint creates the need for a world class Commercial Risk organization. The Commercial Risk team is an essential part of MST and has primary accountability for determining daily positions, PNL and exposure to enable the commercial trading and hedging activity together with financial analysis and reporting. The Commercial Risk roles are critical to governing daily trading performance and ensuring the organization is deriving value from its supply and trading operations using deep financial analysis skills coupled with a strong commercial acumen. The team ensures financial results align with market conditions thereby providing independent oversight of trading performance and ensuring activities remain within defined boundaries set by the company. An opportunity for an analyst in Commercial Risk is now available. Working with the trading team, you will be assigned a portfolio of supply and trading activity and will be working with a front office team that includes traders and schedulers. Through this work you will be defining the daily hedges that minimize market risk on held inventory and you will be facilitating discussions on the performance and on the impact price movements have on your assigned portfolio. This role allows you to develop your career as a Risk/Middle Office professional offering future leadership opportunities as well as opportunities to move to derivative or physical trading roles as the Risk organization continues to be an important feeder pool for these groups. ROLE OVERVIEW: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Risk professional to join our Commercial Risk team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in risk management, analytics and reporting. This role is crucial in ensuring the company’s exposure to various risks is monitored, analyzed, and reported accurately. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES + Reports and validates portfolio daily position and MTM (Marked to Market) reports. Assists with troubleshooting and analytics of the portfolio’s returns + Provides independent assessment of market risk and performs financial analysis on the trading profit and loss. Issues reports on the portfolio position and results and challenges traders on positions and trading strategies. + Collaborates with other team members and other stakeholders including Accounting, Refining Operations, Schedulers and Traders to design and enhance processes and procedures to enable accurate and timely exposure information. + Validates inputs to MtM results for accuracy and consistency with policies and procedures. + Tests and validates new data sources enabling faster and more accurate compilation of position data. + Develops and maintains weekly and monthly analysis reports. These reports provide commercial leadership with the tools to enable better informed decisions and optimize commercial strategies. + Develops and automates processes performing daily tasks more efficiently. + Supports the Team on ad-hoc projects when appropriate + Coordinates with IT Services and other organizations improving systems required to gather, analyze, and report risk management activities REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION + Minimum bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting or related discipline required. EXPERIENCE + 5+ years industry experience in analysis of financial results and reporting (energy, trading, banking or capital markets). + Proven experience in risk analytics/risk management within a financial analysis (or risk team) of a trading group for physical crude oil, refined products or natural gas. SKILLS + Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. + Ability to handle multiple projects and work in a fast moving, deadline driven environment. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to build a rapport with others within the team and across disciplines. + Self-motivated and ability to deliver results with minimal supervision. Able to work independently to provide effective challenge to the trading desk. + Demonstrated understanding of market exposure and mark-to-market reporting. + Assist in the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures. + Stay updated on industry trends, regulations and best practices in Risk management. + Innovative and comfortable with change and with challenging the status quo. + Strong Computer skills, particularly Excel. + Preferred experience with Power BI and/or Tableau. + Preferred Right Angle experience.
