Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Commercial Law Teams provide a variety of general corporate and commercial legal services including contracts, legal rights, obligations, and privileges. They also review legal data and advise organization on appropriate legal action.

 

TE Connectivity is seeking an experienced attorney with a strong background supporting manufacturing companies, preferably in the energy/power market, to join its legal team. This position offers dedicated support to TE Connectivity’s Energy business unit. The attorney filling this position must be both qualified for and interested in assuming a visible and pivotal role in growing and shaping the business unit’s business strategy in the Americas.


The Legal Counsel reports to and collaborates with the global Lead Counsel for the Energy business unit. This position will provide counsel and legal leadership to business management in North America – helping to develop and implement the strategic initiatives and enhancements required to best meet the needs of this growing business, particularly in the field of green energy. We would very much welcome a candidate with business-proficiency in Spanish to be able to also support the BU’s business in South America. 

 

Primary Responsibilities 
•    Provides hands-on legal counsel and support on a broad range of commercial matters for the TE Connectivity Energy business unit in America including sales, purchase, operations-related, licensing and service agreements.
•    Structure, review and negotiate complex agreements including agreements with EPC companies in our growing renewables business segment.
•    Business Counseling: Develop a strong relationship with internal clients and drive a culture of proactive legal support; provide proactive, solution-oriented advice to business stakeholders.
•    Compliance:  Ensure compliance with applicable laws and TE policies through comprehensive compliance counseling and training. Support the development and implementation of appropriate compliance controls.
•    Risk Management: Identify and help to mitigate legal risks affecting the business.
•    Product Liability, Warranty Issues/Claims/General Commercial Litigation:  Provide legal advice on potential product issues or quality claims, as well as on other typical types of commercial litigation, and, as necessary, interface with outside counsel on the litigation of such matters. Supervise outside counsel as necessary.
•    Dispute Resolution: Gather and review facts and information; provide a preliminary opinion on exposure and risk assessment with recommendations for resolution.
•    Collaboration across the TE Law Department:  Collaborating on suitable projects or matters with members of other commercial and functional support teams of the TE Law Department across segments and regions.
•    Due Diligence: Identify legal issues for acquisitions.
•    General Advice:  Provide general legal and practical proactive advice to the business, while being open minded and flexible.
•    Continuous Improvement: Identify continuous improvement opportunities related to the contract review process and the legal support provided to the Energy business unit, including identifying, developing and implementing best practices.

What your background should look like:

•    Must be a degreed and licensed attorney eligible to practice in at least one jurisdiction within the United States of America.
•    10+ years’ experience, including 7+ years general commercial legal experience in a major law firm and/or multinational corporation.
•    Experience in the energy / power sector, preferred.
•    Fluency in English required; bilingual fluency in English / Spanish, preferred.
•    A pro-active and energetic approach that ensures that the corporation’s business and legal risks are being anticipated and responded to effectively.
•    Ability to manage multiple requirements and remain composed under pressure.
•    Experience in managing projects and cross-functional teams in these efforts.
•    Ability to travel. Travel is estimated at about 10-25% and can include international travel.

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $185,600 - $278,400 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
