Commercial Business Intelligence Analyst

Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned)

This role is part of the Calpine Energy Solutions’ Retail Operations team and is centered around the dynamic and growing need for front office business intelligence in the organization. Analyst will work closely with various stakeholders to create and enhance dashboards, reports, automations, and other special projects. An ideal candidate will be driven by creative problem solving, an interest in new technology, and be a lifelong learner. Analyst shall also demonstrate strong quantitative, communication, and collaboration skills. Success in this role means working on impactful projects that drive commercial outcomes and advancing the team by growing and learning new skills.

Job Responsibilities

Data Analysis, Visualization, and Reporting

Identify, transform, and translate data using SQL from internal and external sources to ensure data integrity and accuracy. In support of a variety of commercial goals, create Power BI dashboards and reports to visualize big data, keeping user experience in mind. Liaise with IT to understand and utilize the organization’s commercial data infrastructure. Maintain, support, and upgrade existing reports with sustainable best practices. Proactively collaborate with desk leads to understand business objectives and requirements to translate them into data-driven solutions.

Automation, Technical Projects, and Documentation

Develop solid understanding of current business applications, processes, and rules. Identify opportunities for improvements and automation. Implement modern dependable solutions that require less manual input, while maintaining ease of use for non-technical users. Continuously build upon in-depth knowledge of internal processes as well as emerging business intelligence technologies. Work in cross functional teams to support data solutions across the retail platform. Utilize cloud based automation tools like Power Automate to create scheduled email alerts to summarize various reports. Proactive involvement in documenting requirements and project details, identifying business risks, and user acceptance testing for new IT initiatives that impact current business processes, queries, and deliverables.

Commercial Support

Leverage strong communication and presentation skills with confidence to drive the business forward commercially with insights, suggestions, and innovation. Engage with others to brainstorm and leverage different skills and strengths of team members. Develop and maintain compelling dashboards and reports that support commercial decision making, analysis, and customer engagement. Collaborate with sales and structuring teams to design modern offerings for direct customer consumption via a customer portal to convey complex information in a meaningful, user friendly, and accessible way.

Wholesale and Retail Electricity Market Knowledge

Understand the products and services that Calpine offers to its retail customers, how we contract with customers, hedge our positions, create value, and manage our market risk. Learn applicable ISO rules, timelines, and scheduling requirements that we must follow to serve our retail power and natural gas customers. Develop an understanding of how the deregulated power markets are constructed and the cost/revenue components associated with participating in these markets. Build comprehension of the current power market regulatory environments and seek to understand future regulatory changes that impact our business.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Math, Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or other quantitative field or associate degree in similar fields of study 1 to 3 years work experience Experience with data visualization/automation tools required (Power BI, Power Automate, SQL preferred) Experience with Excel required Creative problem solving and eagerness to learn Strong communication and collaboration abilities Ability to work autonomously and accept responsibility, able to excel under the pressure of multiple deadlines. This job is in an office under a structured hybrid work schedule and may require occasional business travel Must be able to work in the United States without company sponsorship

Salary Information - Position eligible for annual bonus.

Salary range -  $64,480 to $85,874
