About this Position The Small Uncrewed Engines (SUE) team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Combustor Design Leader to join our fast-paced and high energy team, which is expected to deliver a new centerline engine in under 3 years. In this role, you will lead the design and development of advanced combustor systems for our next-generation limited-life, affordable, uncrewed engines. This role requires a deep understanding of combustor technology, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to innovation and excellence. **Job Description** **Roles and Responsibilities** + Lead the design, analysis, and development of combustor components and systems. + Support the definition of new small uncrewed engine requirements and then ensure all designs meet or exceed safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) requirements. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams including aerodynamics, materials, manufacturing, and testing to optimize combustor performance. + Drive continuous improvement initiatives and apply lean manufacturing principles to enhance design processes. + Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation. + Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure project success. + Stay current with industry trends and advancements in combustor technology. + Present design concepts and progress to senior leadership and stakeholders. **Required Qualifications** + Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. + Minimum total of 5 years of experience in mechanical design + Minimum of 3 years of experience in combustor design and development. + Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role will require the individual to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance. Prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. **Desired Characteristics** + Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. + Strong understanding of combustor aerodynamics, heat transfer, and materials science. + Proven track record of leading complex engineering projects from concept to production. + Experience with DOD Qualification of Weapon Systems. + Demonstrated experience with Earned Value Management (EVM) and FP&A or equivalent business launch approval process. + Working knowledge of CAMEO and program managing software (such as MS Project). + Proficiency in CAD software and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools. + Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies. + Familiarity with GE Aerospace’s FLIGHT DECK operating model. + Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. + Strong communication and interpersonal skills. + Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and lead a remote team. + Ability to thrive in ambiguity, demonstrated by taking risks and embracing failure.
