Summary/Responsibilities
On a rotating shift schedule, the Combined Cycle Operator I (CCO I) is responsible for the coordination, and the safe and efficient operation, of the generating units at the respective Power Station, to include HRSGs and all associated balance of plant equipment. The incumbent will be responsible for achieving the minimal level of required operations skill tasks in the operation of the Power Station. The incumbent is also required to perform duties in water chemistry.
The CCO I is responsible for successfully completing the Regulated and Renewable Energy Florida (RREF) Development Program and will be required to progress to a CCO III level. The CCO I will be required to demonstrate elements of a progression skill level of competence from selected journeyman tasks in the following three maintenance fields: electrical, instrumentation and controls (I&C), and mechanical. This is referred to as an Operator Maintenance Qualification and shall be completed within approximately 18 months of being placed in the CCO classification. Incumbents must comply with all requirements under the training program, which involves, but is not limited to, training timelines and periodic performance assessments.
Position has call-out responsibilities and must be available to work all hours as needed, day or night, weekends, or holidays, and in all weather conditions. Requires ability to travel and stay overnight to various locations and the ability to work/respond on short notice to support planned/unplanned/emergency site events.
Employees bidding the CCO classifications will not be able to bid out of the position for a period of 12 months after becoming Control Board qualified.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
A journeyman operator level skill. Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) Test at the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) levelSuccessful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) TestAbility to successfully complete the RREF Development Program for Combined Cycle Operators.Experience in troubleshooting and correcting electrical, mechanical and I&C problems.Must be fully competent in power station operations.Must be well versed in the underlying theoretical applications of thermodynamics. A complete understanding of power station water chemistry functions and applications (e.g., proper sampling, analysis, and related instrument calibrations).Education
High School Diploma or equivalentExperience
Must have worked as a journeyman operator at either a combustion turbine (simple or combined cycle), coal, oil, nuclear or natural gas power station. (Solar, wind or hydro experience does not apply).Or, must possess military experience/technical school training (e.g., ancillary power operations), or, previous work experience equivalent to a journeyman skill that may be assessed at a Journeyman level.Licenses And/or Certificates
