The College of Veterinary Medicine has an Instructional Designer II position who will work with educators, administrators, subject-matter experts, and program managers to create and maintain instructional materials for all delivery formats; provide training and consultation to improve the teaching practice of university instructors; provide tier 2 support for educational technologies; and assist with the quality assurance and accessibility of course content for the Veterinary Medicine Program. Must have advanced knowledge and ability to work independently, engage in systematic design with leadership and skill, and provide experience-based insights to instructors and program managers via consultation. The Instructional Designer II reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs.

Responsibilities Consults and guides faculty and program managers in the systematic design of instruction, including analysis, outcome selection and alignment, curriculum mapping, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.Assists educators in the hands-on development of course content and multimedia.Trains educators in the use of effective teaching strategies, educational technologies, and instructional design principles via group workshops and individual consultations (meeting in-person and via web conferencing).Serves as subject matter expert in educational technologies for faculty and staff. Explore and implement innovative educational technologies and instructional design software to enhance teaching and learning experiences, such as simulation software, and virtual reality tools.Develops multimedia educational and training materials in written, video, and graphical formats such as presentations, videos, interactive modules, training videos, and online resources to support teaching and learning in both face-to-face and online settings.Develop assessment tools, including quizzes, exams, and rubrics, to measure student learning outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional methods.Work collaboratively with other instructional designers, educators, and subject matter experts within the college to promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in veterinary education.Conduct evaluations and assessments of instructional materials and courses to ensure alignment with best practices in instructional design, and accessibility standards. Stay informed about current trends and research in instructional design, educational technology, and veterinary education to continuously improve teaching and learning practices within the college.Engages with, and periodically leads, team projects to identify existing needs and implement solutions.Provides resolution of technical concerns from faculty and staff via phone, email, web conference, and in-person visit.Performs front-end systems administration tasks in the learning management system and other educational technology tools.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in instructional design, experience design, or a related field.Two years of professional experience developing instructional or training materials for clients.Professional experience providing customer support and/or systems administration.Proficiency with learning management systems and instructional content authoring tools.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Expert knowledge of learning management systems and web-based applications commonly used for education (web conferencing, video capture and hosting, virtual proctoring, assessment authoring and delivery, polling).Expert knowledge of principles of learning and models of instructional design.Skill in project management, team participation, and team leadership.Proficiency with HTML, CSS, and modern web-design practices.Proficiency with principles of web accessibility.Knowledge of industry integration specifications for systems (i.e. LTI, QTI, etc.)Proficiency with classroom technologies for presenting and web broadcasting.Proficiency with mobile technologies.Skilled at computers and software, including operating systems, web browsers, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to find creative and novel approaches to problems.Ability to maintain up-to-date and accurate records.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Ability to learn new systems. Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

The instructional designer will be joining the college at an exciting point of transformation. Currently, the USU College of Veterinary Medicine participates in a "2+2" program with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and the broader Washington-Idaho-Montana-Utah (WIMU) Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine, which provides instruction to 30 students in each class cohort. However, in 2022 the state of Utah approved the creation of a full four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree program at USU, with the goal of admitting its inaugual class of 40 students in the fall of 2025 and supporting a class size of 80 veterinary students in subsequent years. The new college is the only veterinary medical education program in Utah.
