GFL Environmental is looking for a Collections Specialist to join our team out of our Southfield, Michigan Office! The Collections Specialist will perform, administer, and coordinate all collection functions to reduce the aging of client A/R through review, analysis, and communication with clients. This is a hands-on position that involves communicating with clients and employees.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Daily collection calls (Outbound/Inbound - Target of 45 outbound calls per day)Contact customers regarding overdue accounts and determine reasons for non-paymentPerform brief account reconciliationsMonitor customer accounts for non-payment, late payment and other irregularitiesProcess credit card paymentsResearches charge backs and returned checksIssue credit hold notificationsRecommend that accounts be shifted to a collection agencyRecommend bad debt write-offsIssue overdue letters to overdue accountsUse skip tracing techniques to locate customersNegotiating settlementsResearch/investigate historical data and resolve payment discrepancies and provide backups to customersRespond to customer questions and requests and resolve those questions/issuesComplying with applicable laws, regulations, policies and proceduresOvercome stall tactics and objection by suggesting different options for debt payment

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

At least two years (2) of collection experienceWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office-Outlook, Word and ExcelMust be able to work a flexible scheduleProficient computer and math skillsSelf-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesProven interpersonal, organizational, analytical and problem solving skillsStrong communication with outstanding phone etiquette and interpersonal skillsAble to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independentlyPossess strong logic, ability to take initiative and able to negotiate
