JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduate or equivalent. Attain satisfactory score on job related test. Ability to use gauges and instruments associated with the inspection of materials, sheets, ends, and cans. Skilled in the use of hand tools and measuring instruments used on the job. Has or will provide all hand tools associated with the job. Meets minimum standard on company designated color perception test.

Job Content: 

Responsible for proper operating and maintenance of coating equipment and operation of the oven, accountable for the quality of his/her duties, under supervision. Services, sets-up, operates, maintains, adjusts, makes changeovers, and wash-up.  Performs these duties to maintain maximum production efficiency and product quality. Diagnoses mechanical and quality problems.  Determines necessary repairs and restores defective equipment to service with minimum amount of spoilage and delays. Completes as much “make-ready” as possible to help accomplish efficient changeovers, sets oven temperatures, maintains steady supply of specified coating materials and thinners at the coater line, and after changeovers removes to storage any materials used on previous run but not required for new run. Maintains storage of, obtains, and properly mixes to standard, all coater material used. Maintains supply of tinplate in feeder and coater material in coater well to ensure standard quality and continuous production. Maintains reports and records production and changeovers as required and/or directed. Requires assistance from other coater mechanic or supervision only in unusual quality or operating problems of the equipment, and has full responsibility for its efficient operation, damage of plate and loss in spoilage. Effectively directs lower classed trainees and helpers when assigned to his/her line. Maintains coating rolls and cut pattern for future runs using roll cutting equipment. Maintains working area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Reports unusual events accidents, damage, and emergencies immediately to supervision. Performs related work assignments as required, including relief work for other mechanics, stackers, LTO’s or QA’s. Performs duties with due regard to safety for self, and other employees while exercising proper care and protection of company property. Other duties as assigned.

TRAINEE:  During the training period, the trainee must exhibit through work and assignments his/her ability to progress and handle the job to management’s satisfaction.  In the event the trainee does not demonstrate his/her ability to handle the job duties competently, he/she will not be awarded the job.
