JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse Clinical Supervisor accepts accountability for the provision of care in accordance with UVA Health’s policies and procedures and competency to promote patient health and wellness. 

The Registered Nurse Clinical Supervisor in partnership with the Clinic Administrator, ensures implementation and success of organizational goals; organizes and coordinates the clinical environment, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of healthcare services. Supervises 20 or more clinical FTEs and may include RN, LPNs, medical assistants and other unlicensed personnel. Registered Nurse Clinical Supervisor serves as a clinical leader of the healthcare team. 

In addition to the supervisory responsibilities, the Registered Nurse Clinical Supervisor will provide patient care support in accordance with nursing scope of practice.

This position requires providing services to all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individuals served.

Patient Care: Responsible for practicing safely within the defined standards of practice.

Records and relays patient information, symptoms, and concerns to the patient’s medical provider or registered nurse for further triage assessment and to determine a plan of care Assist patients with therapeutic regimens Implements established plans of care and age-appropriate interventions.  Reinforces patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient through approved educational materials or written instructions Administer tasks, treatments, and medications in accordance with validated competencies

Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, medical providers and all levels of healthcare.

Conveys information accurately to physicians, nurses, and other team members, as well as listen and respond to the needs and concerns of patients and colleagues Utilizes appropriate communication tools such as Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, and Question (SBARQ) when communicating within the interdisciplinary team. Documents appropriate information in a timely manner. 

Teamwork: Willing to share responsibilities, support their teammates, and work together to achieve common goals.

Organizes and prioritizes daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency. Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care. Recognizes the importance of time sensitive issues.

Nursing Practice: Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia

Engages in continuous learning and professional development activities to stay current with advancements and best practices in ambulatory care.  Possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas  Contributes to the development of practice guiding resources (policies, procedures, guidelines, protocol orders, etc.)

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  4 Year/Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience: Minimum of 3 years nursing experience required. Minimum of 2 year supervisory or lead experience required.

Licensure:  LPN licensure in applicable state preferred. 

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: BLS required. Ability to successfully complete general and department role based specific skills validation and competency testing. Excellent human relation skills, possess effective oral and written communication skills, possess leadership and problem-solving skills, operate personal computer. Ability to successfully complete Leader Education and training.

The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
