]Department Description:

With approximately 100,300 ED visits annually, the CHA Emergency Departments are fast-paced, constantly changing environments with rapid patient turnover.

Summary:
Clinical social workers within the Psychiatric Emergency Service are vital members of a multi-disciplinary treatment team. The clinical social worker works closely with nurses, physician assistants, and physicians in a fast-paced, high stress environment, and is under the clinical supervision of the psychiatrist. The social worker completes psychiatric assessments, provides crisis counseling, and implements treatment planning for patients in the Psychiatric Emergency Service. The social worker identifies appropriate resources and obtains collateral information as needed by patients and family members undergoing evaluation in the Psychiatric Emergency Service. The social worker provides clinical service and case management resources in the Main Emergency Department at designated periods and when not providing psychiatric service in the Psychiatric Emergency Service. The diversity of the client population served in addition to the treatment modalities utilized requires interdisciplinary expertise and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education/Training: Masters degree, Social WorkLicensure: Current MA licensure as LICSW (Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker). LCSW (Licensed Certified Social Worker) considered with eligibility for licensure of LICSW within two years of hire.Certifications: Must be credentialed by the CHA Medical Staff for practice in relevant clinical practice areas.Previous Experience: Minimum of two years post masters degree experience with acute psychiatric population required.Ability to develop rapport with diverse patients having mental and/or substance use disorders.Ability to assess patients for DSM-IV/ DSM-V disorders, with skill and prior experience in making triage decisions, in assessing risk, and in applying the multi-axial diagnostic classification accurately.Ability to recommend individualized treatment plans taking into account patient needs and available clinical services, using a full range of appropriate treatment modalities (such as crisis intervention, individual and group psychotherapy, couple and family therapy, supportive therapy, intermittent therapy, and/or behavior therapy).Ability to recommend clinical care to patients commonly seen in primary care and specialty mental health settings (including core disorders, such as patients with mood or anxiety disorders; patients with severe and persistent mental disorders; patients with personality and/or addictive disorders; and patients with post-traumatic stress disorder).Skill and experience in working as a productive and collegial member of multi-disciplinary mental health team and in collaborating with other health care providers (e.g., primary care and medical specialists).Skill and experience in managing time, maintaining schedules, and in completing documentation and other work assignments on time.Ability to manage new and continuing patients to promote rapid access to care, with particular skill in orienting patients, setting goals for treatment, addressing poor engagement in treatment such as non-attendance, and properly documenting patient encounters for both clinical and business purposes.Ability to include a focus on population health by supporting the role of community-based agencies in providing adjunct services.Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff and trainees in other fields, including primary care, and in assuring coordination of care across treatment settings.May contribute mission critical language/culture knowledge and fluency for service area demographics.Demonstrated computer literacy appropriate to administrative and clinical practice.Ability to support academic programs of the department, including participation in teaching programs as appropriate.Ability to support and strengthen the mission, vision, and values of CHA.
