**Job Description**
Reporting to the Director of Spiritual Care and Education for HOSPITAL, the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Resident is responsible for responding to the spiritual needs of patients, their loved ones, and staff of all and no religious and spiritual traditions throughout HOSPITAL. The CPE Resident assesses patients’ needs; provides spiritual, emotional, religious, and existential support in diverse clinical settings; collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams of staff; and liaises with priests, Eucharistic ministers, and community clergy. The CPE Resident also provides staff support through Take10 visits and other initiatives. The CPE Resident functions as a team member of the Department of Spiritual Care and Education and throughout the Mount Sinai Health System, establishes collaborative relationships with the interdisciplinary care team and other professionals, and actively participates in department initiatives. All CPE Residents share responsibility for overnight and weekend on-call shifts across several hospitals. CPE Residents are expected to actively participate in Mount Sinai’s Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) residency training program, which includes completing all written requirements and reading assignments and engaging actively in class with the goal of completing the educational requirements for chaplaincy certification.

Must have successfully completed at least one unit of CPE at an ACPE-accredited center

**Responsibilities**
+ Assess the spiritual, emotional, religious, and existential needs of patients and their loved ones and provide appropriate spiritual care interventions.
+ Demonstrate and deepen skills for working with patients in multiple clinical areas including general medical-surgical settings, critical care, Emergency Department, and ambulatory settings.
+ Chart visits in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and appropriate manner and complete all other required record keeping and data collection.
+ Collaborate closely on patient care with interdisciplinary teams of staff and develop and maintain professional relationships.
+ Liaise with priests, Eucharistic ministers, volunteers, and other local clergy people to meet patients’ needs.
+ Provide spiritual care to patients and staff in the context of religious holidays and special events.
+ Engage in staff support initiatives, including Take10 visits and activities during Nurses’ Week.
+ Support and train incoming CPE interns, as appropriate and needed.
+ Participate in the overnight, weekend and holiday on-call rotation.
+ Adhere to all MSHS standards, policies, and procedures, including those that create a safe environment of care.
+ Complete all required trainings and in-services.
+ Participate, as appropriate, in the department’s quality improvement activities.
+ Perform other related duties and activities as may be requested by the Director of Spiritual Care and Education.
+ Participate actively in the Clinical Pastoral Education program, including completing all written requirements and reading assignments and engaging actively in class.
+ Adhere to the code of ethics of the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC).

**Compensation Statement**
Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58661.04 - $58661.04 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
