What You'll Be Doing
The Quality/Clinical Abstractor is responsible for working to gather and organize data from a variety of clinical sources, including retrospective and concurrent medical record abstraction; accomplishing data acquisition in accordance with department timelines; communicating with others in the department and hospitals when issues pertaining to data quality and or clinical documentation quality and or clinical care arise; preparing reports based on data abstraction; maintaining a level of data acquisition reliability and accuracy that is up to department standards.
They will track and validate data accuracy and timeliness in accordance with BMC policies and procedures; and perform quality assurance tasks such as inter-rater reliability and validity. They will communicate medical record status and key project issues to management as needed, be familiar with medical terminology and basic medical record design and requirements. The individual will utilize basic computer skills, to include the navigation of several electronic databases (Meditech, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Qnet).
Employee is expected to perform most duties independently and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Specific job responsibilities:
1. Performs core measure chart abstraction both concurrently and retrospectively, and provides compliance report; retrieve, compile, and enter Core Measure data for ongoing tracking and studies into selected computer program.
2. Researches thoroughly and collects all information regarding Core Measure indicators and other quality metrics, interacts with involved individuals in a timely manner.
3. Assists in the development of appropriate forms for data collection and analysis.
4. Assists in constructing of focused assessment studies when problems are identified or opportunities to improve patient safety, care and services arise 5. Maintains own professional growth through the utilization of professional organizations, seminars, in-service programs, and other self-directed learning activities.
6. Maintains awareness of current development and trends in Quality/Performance Improvement.
7. Demonstrates interpersonal competencies such as problem-solving, negotiating, problem solving and communication
8. Relays appropriate information to the designated Quality Department staff.
9. Ability to analyze and interpret data. Ability to organize workflow, function independently and manage own time and work tasks
What We're Looking ForEDUCATION:
· NJ licensed RN
· Associate Degree Preferred or 2 years prior Core Measure Abstraction and other abstraction (complications, medical staff reviews) experience
EXPERIENCE:
· 2 Years Prior Clinical /Core Measure Data Abstraction Experience preferred
· Excellent communication skills are essential.
· Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Access and graphic presentation of data and quality improvement techniques preferred.
