**JOB SUMMARY**
The Clinical Leader, Cardiac Rehabilitation is responsible for the coordination and supervision of services including Phase I, II, and III cardiac rehab. They are an expert clinician resource that mentors’ colleagues in all aspects of patient care delivery and provides ongoing professional development of others. They provide day-to-day leadership to align patient and family needs with colleagues and material resources within the department and organization through collegial collaboration with others. In addition, this individual is responsible for providing direct patient care for the patients served.
**ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY**
Reports to: Clinical Manager Supervises: Staff RN's, Exercise Specialists, and Student Interns Key Working Relationships: Cardiovascular Surgeons, Cardiologists, Cardiology Clinic Manager, 6 West personnel, Network Rehab Staff Primary Customer Groups: Adult and geriatric patients with cardiovascular disease, and families.
**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
Develops an annual operational plan (including scope of service) integrated with Mercy’s Strategic plan and related departments operational plans to efficiently provide services. Monitors and analyzes ongoing performance and productivity and implements necessary corrective plans. Develops, implements, and periodically reviews department/organization policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services complying with Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa policies, JCAHO requirements and federal and state regulations. Maintains current knowledge base of trends, policies, regulatory standards, and legislation and advises administration when pertinent. Develops and maintains departmental staffing plan detailing appropriate employee classifications and qualifications consistent with the department’s operational plan, projected volumes, patient/acuity (for patient care areas) and other relevant indicators. Leads performance improvement and/or problem solving to improve patient and colleague safety, quality outcomes, and patient care experience to ensure root cause is identified. Pulls Andon to problem solve patient and colleague safety concerns, unmet quality outcomes, unfavorable patient care experiences and escalate per chain of command. Participates in annual human resource planning process providing recommendations for staffing proactive recruitment and long-term needs. Assures daily staffing adheres to plan. Continuously assesses and improves the department’s performance based on, but not limited to the department’s quality plan monitors and customer/employee satisfaction data. Assists in interviewing, hiring, orientating, developing and completion of performance evaluations and/or performance counseling in accordance with employment and payroll procedures in the collaboration with the clinical manager/director. Responsible for recognizing colleagues, promoting and role modeling a positive work environment, teamwork, and colleague engagement. Works with each employee to clarify the outcomes that are expected and coaches toward success. Guides others in continuous learning and growth Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations. Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. Documents patient information in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate, timely manner. Delegates/supervises based on patient needs and the scope of practice and top of license. Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in Organizational and/or departmental education programs. Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of Mercy Medical Center – North Iowa and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors. Supports and abides by all Organizational, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. Performs other responsibilities as requested by manager or department head.
**ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS**
Assists with the Forever Fit Program. Participates in providing community education.
**POSITION QUALIFICATIONS**
Education [formal]: _Baccalaureate degree in nursing or willing to obtain in 5 years_ **_OR_** _Baccalaureate degree in approved course of study required._ _Current RN Licensure in State of Iowa IF RN applicant_
Experience:
+ _Must have demonstrated competence in an acute care setting with cardiac monitoring and interpretation of arrhythmias for a minimum of two years OR_
+ _Internship in cardiac rehabilitation OR_
+ _experience working in a cardiac rehabilitation program_
Special Skills and Competencies: _Self-motivated, detail-oriented individual able to work with minimum supervision._ _A high degree of knowledge of cardiac diseases and treatments utilized._ _Ability to instruct patients/families in cardiac disease, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation._ _Obtain and maintain dysrhythmia interpretation skills_ _Preferred certification in AACVPR Cardiac Rehab specialization._ _Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs._ _Completes the following mandatory courses_ **_(check all that apply)_** _._
