Collects blood and body fluid specimens for laboratory testing and analysis using a variety of routine and advanced techniques to ensure minimal discomfort to patients from all age groups.
Provide assistance with Bone Marrow collection, transfer and process bone marrow specimens, and make slides for Pathology review.
Performs limited Point-of-Care Laboratory Testing.
Performs Sweat Chloride Collection.
Accessions specimens upon arrival to the lab and ensure timely specimen handling.
Processes specimens by centrifuging, aliquoting, storing specimens according to the required temperature to maintain the specimen’s integrity, and preparing specimens for transport.
Ensures all specimens received meet specimen labeling and acceptance criteria.
Investigates, troubleshoots, and resolves problems related to laboratory specimens, laboratory testing, supplies and equipment, patient care, patient experience, and team member and patient safety.
Contacts providers with specimen information and cancellations to include: specimen integrity, volumes, test clarification, specimen source, missing specimens, incorrect collections, wrong specimen type.
Performs and audits data entry of patient demographics, billing information, laboratory requests, and collection information into the Electronic Health Record and Laboratory Information system to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Operates and maintains laboratory equipment and relevant maintenance logs.
Maintains appropriate specimen logs and reports.
Serves as a subject matter expert and a resource for team members and facilitates adherence to policies and best practices.
Provides and documents appropriate training and competency assessment of new hires and phlebotomy team members as directed and in a timely manner.
Assists in coordinating daily workflow and the overall department operations to ensure productivity, quality, efficiency, and positive patient experience.
Maintains knowledge of quality, safety, infection prevention, and compliance programs.
Promotes teamwork and exceptional customer service and fosters a patient-centric and professional environment.
Initiates and participates in process and quality improvement, safety and compliance activities.
Performs supply inventory management.
Performs area-specific support and clinical activities.

Position Compensation Range: $17.65 - $27.36 HourlyEducation: High School Graduate or Equivalent required. Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program required.
Experience: 1 year Phlebotomy or Laboratory Specimen Processing experience required.
Licensure: Certification with an approved accredited nationally recognized phlebotomy organization required. PBT(ASCP) certification preferred.

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping and climbing (ladder, steps); Repetitive motion: extension and flexion at wrist. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull < 50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
