Clinical Coordinator - Medical Surgical
Job Description

Dept: Med/Surg 2 South

Position Purpose:

Serves as a clinical role model and supervisor of unit in support of Unit Director.Accepts the responsibility and accountability for the entire unit during a designated shift and the evaluation and treatment of the populations. He/she is responsible for planning, supervising, and evaluating the nursing care of patients and for correlating the nursing process, the medical plan of care and policies. The Clinical Coordinator maintains a positive clinical environment, ensuring delivery of quality care while promoting cohesiveness within the department and the hospital.Provides direct patient care when necessary. Reports to the Director Medical/Surgical Unit.

Supervision:

Responsible for compliance with overall nursing practice standards of the specialty areaDirects and monitors the RAI (Resident Assessment Instrument) process: MDS, Care plan conferences, records, and billingResponsible for compliance with standards during assigned shift (Reports to House Supervisor)Uses established principles of delegation and supervision to direct the activities of all licensed and non-licensed care givers and support staff in the delivery of patient care during their assigned shiftUses independent judgment to ensure optimal delivery of patient care and appropriate use of available resourcesAssist with the scheduling of nursing employeesInitiates methods for cost containment and quality improvementsAdditional duties as assigned
