Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery (Clinician Educator) Clinical Coordinator MSPS Program

The Keck School of Medicine Department of Surgery is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery (Clinician Educator) to join it's team.

Faculty/leadership position within the Keck School of Medicine’s Master of Perfusion Sciences program. General responsibilities will include didactic and clinical instruction, as well as scholarly, administrative, and professional activities.

Coordinate the clinical experience and education of the USC Master of Science in Perfusion Sciences (MSPS) Program and ensuring compliance with required minimum standards for clinical education.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Clinical Coordinator will create the student clinical rotation schedule, maintain the program’s website, and revise the student handbook, as needed.The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the identification, development, and maintenance of all clinical affiliation sites for students. This includes coordination of clinical contracts and determining qualifications of sites and instructors.The Clinical Coordinator will designate a site coordinator at each clinical affiliate to facilitate communication, site orientation/training, and summary student evaluation.The Clinical Coordinator will maintain a schedule of regular contact and documentation of contact with clinical affiliates. Contact may include, but is not limited to, site visits, teleconferences, and written correspondence.The Clinical Coordinator will participate in on-line and in-person activities as requested by the University.The Clinical Coordinator will maintain all required application and documentation information for clinical affiliates, as described in the Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Perfusion, published by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP).Clinical

The Clinical Coordinator will establish and maintain competency with all procedures, equipment, and methods related to cardiovascular perfusion.

The Clinical Coordinator will introduce and orient students to the clinical setting at each clinical site, if local.

The Clinical Coordinator will have frequent direct contact with students in their clinical education, providing clinical instruction and feedback.

The Clinical Coordinator, alongside the Program Director, will maintain oversight over the relationships between the students and their clinical instructors, as well as between the students and the surgical team.

The Clinical Coordinator will maintain responsibility for assuring clinical education effectiveness, as well as the efficacy and use of student case evaluations and clinical experiences.

The Clinical Coordinator will oversee clinical assessments and record keeping of clinical documentation.

The Clinical Coordinator will assist students with research projects, facilitate presentations and journal submissions, to aid in the visibility of the program at a national level.

Continuing Education

The Clinical Coordinator will maintain continuing education and accreditation as required by the accrediting agency, the Accreditation Committee—Perfusion Education

(AC-PE).

Program Admittance

The Clinical Coordinator will participate alongside the Program Director in the

admittance progress of the MSPS Program each year.

The Clinical Coordinator will assist with forming program requirements, timeline, and prerequisites. The Clinical Coordinator will participate and assist in application reviews alongside the Program Director. The Clinical Coordinator will participate in personal interviews and decisions for admittance alongside the Program Director. Student Progression

The Clinical Coordinator will oversee the progression of the students through the MSPS Program.

The Clinical Coordinator will maintain knowledge of every student’s program progression, both clinically and academically. The Clinical Coordinator will assist the Program Director with student interventions when necessary.

Requirements

Certification: Current certification as a perfusionist by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) or within the first five years after obtaining CCP Emeritus status.Experience:

at least five years of experience as a perfusionist

at least two years of experience as an instructor in an accredited educational program

Special Requirements

Must maintain faculty appointment within KSOM  The annual base salary for this position is $190,000.
