Job Description
To provide the administrative and clinical support to physicians and nurse practitioners at Old Dominion University Student Health Services by performing tasks within the scope of a medical assistant that contribute to the health and wellbeing of the students of Old Dominion University. To provide cross coverage as needed for the laboratory and immunization support.

Knowledge, skills and abilities
Some knowledge of human anatomy and physiology. Working knowledge of medical procedures, sterilization procedures, and antiseptic technique. Some knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Basic computer skills. Demonstrated ability to use medical equipment such as EKG machine, autoclave, sphygmomanometer, otoscope, etc. Demonstrated ability to obtain patient’s history and vital signs with accuracy. Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain clinical supplies inventory. Demonstrated ability to read pharmaceutical labeling. Experience with data entry.

Prefer registration or certification as a medical assistant or equivalent work experience or education. CPR Certification. Demonstrated ability to perform phlebotomy & specific laboratory tests. Some knowledge of immunizations. Some experience with an electronic medical record.
Conditions of Employment
Given the nature of the positions in Student Enrollment, Engagement & Services that provide support to student services and/or student-centered programs, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing as directed by his or her supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e., telework, etc.).
This position is designated sensitive. A fingerprint-based criminal background check will be required of the final candidate.
