Stantec’s Northeast Transportation team is seeking a Climate Resilience Planning Intern to help communities with their climate adaptation, disaster recovery, and hazard mitigation challenges. You will collaborate on a wide array of projects that are as technically challenging as they are impactful, creative, and fulfilling. You will contribute to a broad portfolio of resilience planning efforts including but not limited to comprehensive resilience plans, risk assessments, and climate adaptation planning. You will exchange ideas, best practices, and lessons learned with Stantec’s local and national experts in resiliency planning, modeling, and design.

Your Key Responsibilities

As a Climate Resilience Planning Intern, you will join a growing and enthusiastic team of planning professionals. You will have the opportunity to contribute to forward-looking programs, policies, and plans. You will partner with our climate and environmental scientists, digital solutions developers, GIS experts, funding specialists, engineers, and planners to develop action-oriented resilience plans for our municipal and agency clients.

In this role, your understanding of community and infrastructure resilience, hazard mitigation, climate adaptation, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement will allow you to work on tasks, teams, and projects in the region.

We are seeking an individual with the desire and ability to:

Our Climate Resilience Planning Intern must be eager to learn all facets of planning and development and be willing to help our professional team bring projects from concept to deliverable; this includes everything in between. Knowledge of local planning processes and codes, land development activities, site design considerations, and equity indicators are a plus. Must be comfortable working with clients and members of the community/public in a variety of settings from formal public hearings to listening sessions. The candidate must have exceptional writing skills and be savvy with emerging technology to engage the public, including developing and maintaining project websites, online survey platforms, etc. Your Capabilities and Credentials Experience with climate resilience plans, disaster recovery or hazard mitigation plans, climate vulnerability assessments, and/or climate resilient corridor studies. Excellent computer, writing, and technical skills, including ArcGIS and the Adobe Suite Experience working with publicly available Census and climate data. Self-motivated and passionate about planning and equity Strong time management, critical thinking, research, and organizational skills The ability to work well with others, as well as independently Education and Experience Applicants should be a current graduate student or recent graduate of an accredited master’s degree program in urban planning or public policy. Summer interns are expected to work 40 hrs/week minimum in the office.

Typical office environment working with computers. Some travel may be required (add in expected travel %), such as delivering plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.

Additional Information Salary Range(s): Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s): Location Description: Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in MN, NYC/NY Min Pay Range: NYC $23.21 Max Pay Range: NYC $27.86 Note: The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
