Job Description Summary:

<h2><b>Overview</b></h2><div><div><div><p>Responsible for appropriately managing incoming and outgoing telephone communications on the basis of "one person/one call" for non-technical inquiries and "one call/one transfer" for technical inquiries. Notifies provider of appropriate critical values. Communicates appropriate specimen requirements to clientele. Performs routine and special laboratory clerical work.</p></div></div></div>

Responsibilities

Effectively responds to client calls on the «one call» approach.
Correctly enters patient information and test mnemonics as requested by the client into the order system for add on tests.
Obtains and distributes correct lab results to the appropriate provider via pre-determined fax numbers while confirming successful transmission.
Initiates sub-optimal specimen forms as indicated.
Performs routine and special clerical duties in a designated area, such as answering the telephone and /or intercom, filing.
Assists in Outreach Screenings, such as Health Fairs, Drug Screening.
Must stocks supplies in the absence of or to augment MCL Client Service Representative.
Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Ability to read, write and perform basic arithmetic as normally acquired through high school education or the equivalent. Successful completion of 30 hours of didactic training with a supervisor or CR Personnel. Medical Terminology gained through 1-5 years of work experience in the medical field or completion of a medical terminology course.  
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION: None  
EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of hospital departmental policies and procedures. Prefer knowledge of laboratory services as customarily gained through 2 years experience in specimen processing or phlebotomy. Would accept 2 years or more experience in a client service representative role. Knowledge of appropriate specimen collection procedures as acquired through 30 hours of didactic training.
