POSITION SUMMARYThe Cleaning Rack operator is responsible for the set-up, operation, and maintenance of the cleaning rack. The Rack operator will operate the equipment to clean railcars and railcar parts to remove impurities using proper techniques and procedures. The Rack operator must be able to read and understand work orders and Safety Data Sheets. They must follow all company guidelines and safety rules when performing their duties.
Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:
SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS
Operates machines to wash and remove impurities from inbound railcars to prepare them for safe entry to perform repairs, sandblasting, and coatings.Drain, clean, and refill machines or tanks at designated intervals, using cleaning solutions or water.Add specified amounts of chemicals to equipment at required times to maintain solution levels and concentrations.Measure, weigh, or mix cleaning solutions, using measuring tanks, calibrated rods, or suction tubes.Observe machine operations, gauges, or thermometers, and adjust controls to maintain specified conditions.Set controls to regulate temperature and length of cycles, and start conveyors, pumps, agitators, and machines.Examine and inspect machines to detect malfunctions.Adjust, clean, and lubricate mechanical parts of machines, using hand tools and grease guns.Unload various products from railcar to clean using hoists or forklifts.Follow prescribed safety procedures and comply with federal laws regulating waste disposal methods.Disposes of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner.Maintain a clean workspace and follow tooling requirements.Other duties and projects as assigned by the Repair Manager, Repair Supervisor or Team Leader.EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or GED.Ability to read and comprehend work orders.OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED

Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, work boots and the ability to wear a respirator.The ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling of materials for more than 50% of the workday.Ability to lift 50 pounds safely and able to drag blast hose over full length of the railcar.Working around heavy moving equipment with intermittent exposure to vibration when using impact tools.Work outdoors in all weather conditions.Work in elevated heights and confined spaces. Able to navigate scaffolds, floors, ladders and walking surfaces that are uneven.Use of respirator as required.The ability to sustain mental and visual attention to details for sustained periods of time.WORK SITE ENVIRONMENT
Must always comply with all safety requirements and lead by example regarding safety.Primary work environment subject to extreme heat or cold for considerable amounts of time. Must dress accordingly.Hearing protection shall be required in certain designated areas to noise levels greater than 80 decibels.Scaffolds, floors, ladders and walking surfaces may be uneven.DISCLAIMER:
