Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented Civil Inspector for construction inspection services to oversee the construction a new tunnel between the Kensico Reservoir and the Catskill/Delaware Ultraviolet Light Disinfection (CDUV) Facility for NYCDEP situated in Westchester County, New York.

Job Responsibilities

The Civil Inspector is a full-time on-site role. The Inspector will be responsible for conducting routine inspections of civil infrastructure, identifying defects and potential hazards, and documenting contract compliance. The Inspector will also be responsible for producing detailed reports and communicating findings to management. The Inspector will have the primary responsibility for assuring quality of the construction. Additional responsibilities include:

Observes Contractor’s construction activitiesAccepts work completed in compliance with contract documents, rejects defective work, maintains log of rejected work, assists with resolution of construction issuesCoordinates with Contractor to identify upcoming work; verifies upcoming work against issued look ahead schedulesReviews contract requirements, submittals, shop drawings, and other associated documentationCommunicates daily with the AECOM Resident Engineer and Contractor's field team in execution of his/her dutiesTracks progress of work in field. Monitors Contractor’s adherence to schedule and provides input on Contractor’s payment requestsInspects work for conformance with contract documents, approved change orders, clarifications, etc.; identifies and reports all nonconforming work; documents all work with daily reports, photos and videosTracks and verifies Contractor time and material or force account work.Conducts inspections to ensure that the work is performed in compliance with the contract documents.Ensures delivered materials comply with approved submittals. Observes and approves Contractor’s testing and QA/QC activitiesMaintains necessary project documentation, including daily, weekly, and monthly reports and logs. Prepares other required field documentation as necessaryProvides input for construction changes. Assist with preparation and negotiation of field orders and change ordersObserves implementation of health and safety procedures and practices.Performs other assignments as determined by AECOM Resident Engineer.Assists with coordination of contractor work activities with Plant Operations, with focus on civil and structural items coordinationEnsures the delivered materials and equipment is the correct product from approved vendorsTracking quantities installed on a daily basis and prepares T&M reports as appropriateVerifies Contractor maintenance of As-Built drawings; confirm with Contractor that this is being carried out; review look-ahead schedules. Verification that work is in accordance with the approved shop drawing and sample Submittals

High School diploma and 8 years of experience in construction inspector roles for heavy site civil infrastructure construction projectsNICET Level IV CertifiedACI CertifiedConcrete Field-Testing Technician Grade IIOSHA 10-hour Construction Health and Safety CourseValid US Drivers License

Engineering DegreeNYCDEP 4-hr Scaffolding TrainingNYSDEC 4-hr Erosion and Sediment Control TrainingNYCDEP BEDC EHS Standards Training (4 Hour)Strong oral and written communication skillsPhysical fitness and the ability to work in confined spaces and at heights
